This past weekend, Dr. Jane Goodall and the Roots & Shoots Alliance of Tampa Bay hosted their Hope in Action Youth Environment Summit. Hearing from peers already doing amazing things, Grades 4 and up discovered how they can make a difference and seized the rare opportunity to hear from Dr. Jane Goodall live and in person.

An invited panel from across Florida of young changemakers, who are making a difference for our environment spoke to the youth attendees. They shared how they got started, what inspired them, their challenges, and how they stayed positive.

The small selected panel included three former SHMA students. One panelist and former student Ryan M., posted on THE FISHES WISHES Instagram that he had the chance to interview the amazing Sean Russell, ocean advocate, and environmental educator, for Ryan's film that will be released around 2025 Earth Day.

SHMA Middle & High School students participate in their Auto Mechanics Elective, taught by an Alum Family.

Students will learn and participate in some essential young-driver auto knowledge such as:
- tires – tread and proper pressure / low tires vs flat tires
- windshield wipers
- warning lights
- distractions – passengers / bluetooth / cell phones
- maintenance vs repairs
-talking through what they see on the dashboard – the radio isn’t the most important part!
-adjusting mirror; backup cameras are great but know how to use the mirrors
-seatbelts/airbags – safe seat placement
