Manannán and Beyond is a very deep dive into the myth and folklore concerning Manannán and Manawydan in The Isle of Man, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. There are a lot of sources to choose from, when it comes to Manannán. This class will put them at your fingertips and help you organise the information in a meaningful way.

Shapeshifters and Magical Animal deals with well-known and lesser known tales of humans taking animal (and plant!) form. We will question our ideas about animism, and ask what these stories and poems have to say to us about transcendence, time, and immortality. This series draws on folklore, poetry, myth and modern writing.

Trying to unravel the mysteries of Celtic myth can easily be a life's work. But it can also be enjoyable and rewarding. However, a lot of people stay stuck at the level of "confused beginner" because they try to tackle it by themselves, often without a map or guidebook! It can be hard to progress to that "enjoyable and rewarding" bit, when you're eternally at the stage of wondering whether you can trust your sources, or when you don't really see the underlying systems at work.

We had the first run of this class in January. It stretched everyone involved, including me (in a good way). I noticed a bit more confidence among the students who had taken it, compared to some others, as the year progressed. So I would recommend it to anyone who is new to Celtic mythology, or who needs to fill in gaps in their general knowledge of how everything fits together, help with jargon, all that and more.

The class starts in January. Because it's so long, it's a bit more expensive than my other classes, so I'm offering Early Bird rates, and a way to spread the cost, too.
