On Friday, a few members of the BIPOC Music Union were able to take a trip to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and witness an amazing night of music and representation. We were honored to hear music from Emmy Award Winning composer Jasmine Barnes under the baton of the exceptional conductor Anthony Parnther.

We enjoyed the amazing featured soloists who performed in the KINSFOLKNEM performance, as well as the little surprise performance of Jasmine Barnes’ arrangement of Total Praise by Richard Smallwood.

Later this night, as if it wasn’t already extremely inspiring, we were honored to have met both of these wonderful people and receive advise and insight of what it means to be black and successful in our field.

Another meeting in the books, and a very special one at that! The BIPOC Music Union had the pleasure of sitting down with composer and music educator Katahj Copley for an insightful and culturally relevant session in music.

Thank you for time, wisdom, humor and kind-heartedness Mr. Copley, we hope to see you on our campus and department again very soon!
