The BIG group will receive a brief introduction to most of the subjects, and the TOPIC group will do a slightly deeper dive. Each Key Lesson is intended to give students an introduction to important information and encourage critical thinking about each subject we explore. Our Key Lessons will be the prompt for comprehension and writing activities as well as conversational learning during our group time. In addition, we’ll be using flashcards, books, video and written word as we think about and learn about these subjects and possibly other related topics our conversations may lead to. SUBJECTS:
Critical thinking is encouraged as we introduce kids to important life enhancing information for their growing young minds. We’ll be learning about different subjects together by reading books and watching clips which will introduce kids to big ideas intended to make them think and support parents in their Homeschooling objectives. We will be offering a variety of interesting topics intended to inspire personal growth and provide a foundation for further education. I will be teaching on the following subjects from the following books:
-Compound Interest (BOOK: “The Richest Kid in Babylon” by Judah Tyreman )
-Law of Attraction basics for kids (Vibrational frequency. How to raise your vibe to attract higher vibe things.) (The Law of Attraction says that everything is energy. Everything has a frequency. Some things have a higher vibrational frequency than others. The question is, why is this? It appears that our thoughts, beliefs and actions affect our vibrational frequency, which may then affect the shape energy takes as it collapses into matter around us. It could be that we attract, or by our observation even help to create, things that are at a matching frequency to us.)
-Money wisdom (discussion about reasons to earn, invest, save, give, spend)
(BOOK: “Grandpa’s Fortune Fables: Fun stories to teach kids about money” by Will Rainey )
-Entrepreneurial Basics for kids (to help kids think about starting businesses) (BOOK: Kidpreneurs: Young Entrepreneurs With Big Ideas! By Adam Toren)
-Quantum Physics intro (The Observer Affect. Everything is energy. We affect energy waves and cause them to collapse into particles of matter by our observation of them. Everything is in wave form as a possibility until it is observed.) We only have about two months left this school year, and we will discuss other topics, too, depending on where our conversations, critical thinking and curiosity take us. We’ll begin to understand math in action with topics such as money and finance, compound interest, fractional reserve lending and beginning entrepreneurial basics and business ideas for kids and investing. We will also use flash cards to strengthen memorization skills. Creative writing will be one of our daily practices, intended to encourage the use of imagination and creativity in expressing thoughts, dreams and ideas. We will consider the power of our words to reinforce good ideas in our subconscious minds and the power of words to help or harm our world, along with the importance of freedom of expression. We will also be practicing spelling words and definitions taken from our studies. Some of the interesting people from history we’ll read about are Max Planck who is known as the father of quantum physics, and Nikola Tesla who was involved in some of the greatest discoveries ever, including AC Current, X-rays, Radio, the Tesla Coil and much more. We'll hear quotes from Napolean Hill, Bob Proctor, Jake Ducey and others, then consider the motivational and inspirational teachings behind the quotes. We’ll investigate other interesting people and historical information in a variety of ways, including books, videos and short clips. We’ll also memorize famous sayings from some of the people we learn about in these inspiring lessons.

In Oregon the Homeschool requirements are pretty simple. Parents or guardians are just required to let the Education Service District know in writing of your intent to homeschool your kids within ten days of beginning to homeschool. In addition, children are required to be tested after 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th grades, but ESD does not require homeschoolers turn in test scores unless requested. Please check out these two link for valuable Homeschool information for Oregon, including details about what information is required in your letter of intent to homeschool. BIG TOPICS HOMESCHOOL ENRICHMENT GROUPS ARE INTENDED TO SUPPLEMENT AND ENRICH YOUR CHILDREN’S HOMESCHOOL EXPERIENCE. WE WILL NOT BE NOTIFYING THE ESD OF YOUR INTENT TO HOMESCHOOL OR ENSURING YOUR COMPLIANCE. HOMESCHOOL NOTIFICATION TO ESD IS EACH PARENT OR GUARDIAN’S RESPONSIBILITY. I hope these links will be helpful and direct you to needed resources. I’m very happy to discuss these requirements with you if you have any questions. https://www.oceanetwork.org/register-to-homeschool-in-oregon/

SCHOOL YEAR 2022 - 2023
We will partially respond to the students interests and comprehension levels. Some of the following subjects will be introduced this year and also during the following 2022 - 2023 school year. SOME OF THE TOPICS WE MAY COVER NEXT YEAR:
-Amortized loans (Payments go mostly to only interest for the first half of the loan, and money applied to principle greatly reduces the total amount of interest paid over the life of the loan. So much more money is paid back than the amount that’s borrowed).
-Compound Interest in Action: Examples. (Saving 10% of your pay in an account with 7% return over 50 years - Saving $100 a month in same account.)
-Rich Dad Poor Dad for kids
-Fractional Reserve Lending (Stock Market crash of 1929, discuss movie “Its a Wonderful Life”)
-The Constitution
-The Bill of Rights
-The Declaration of Independence
-Stock Market -Intro to Basics
-Affiliate Marketing -Investigate basics
-Youtube Channel Creation -investigate basics
-Drop shipping -investigate to basics
-The Federal Reserve (Book: Creature from Jekyll Island for kids)
-USA - States and Capitals (Book:The United States of America Coloring Book: Fifty State Maps with Capitals and Symbols like Motto, Bird, Mammal, Flower, Insect, Butterfly or Fruit )
-We will also revisit some of the subjects from this year, to reinforce knowledge and check for comprehension and retention.
-Beginning Fall 2022 we will be using more structured curriculum for math and language, which is likely to be Abeka, Saxon or Sylvan, and we will be likely be offering Homeschool Enrichment Groups five days a week for both our BIG and TOPICS groups. The cost of each child’s curriculum will be added to Fall tuition. We will possibly still be accepting students for 2 to 3 days per week, too, depending upon individual circumstances at that time.
