Research and genealogy for 30 years. Research and some detective work are often what you do when you are a genealogist.
You dig through old yellowed birth and death certificates, you look for tombstones and dig through as many photos as you can. For me it is not so much work as it is a hobby. I love digging for the truth and putting the pieces together which help make sense of the past. I have done research at the National Archives and the Library of Congress in Washington, DC as well as the State Library in Hartford, CT, in addition to several other family history libraries.

Did you know that humans are more closely related to chimpanzees than chimpanzees are to gorillas? Genetic studies show that humans share about 98-99% of their DNA with chimpanzees. Think about that next time you look at your Uncle Ralph.

With the holidays coming up it is a good time to sit with your family, your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and ask them questions about family. Get the pictures out, reminisce. Get off your cellphones and engage.

There is a bakery in Aversa, Italy and come to find out, they are related to me through my maternal grandmother. It was nice to connect to the owners and find our connection, you just don't know what you can find researching your roots.
