After reading Doug Yeo’s recent blog about the racist background of Henry Fillmore’s Lassus Trombone and the rest of his “Trombone Family” compositions, I decided to arrange a brass quintet version of the piece he recommended as a replacement. If you decide, as he suggests, to "bury Lassus Trombone and the other members of Fillmore's Trombone Family", here is a wonderful alternative for your consideration.

Slidus Trombonus - A Trombone Comedy by Mayhew L. Lake - was written in 1915. Much like the works of Fillmore, it uses the familiar trombone glissandi that are so unique to the instrument and perfect for demonstrating to curious children in an educational concert.
