At 8:12 a.m., the first call comes to the office.

A student has been removed from class.

But most of the time, the story did not begin with the referral.

It may have started with a student who stopped doing the work.

Be InspirED Learning Lab enrollment is accepting enrollment for the fall! Sessions begin in September.

After spending the last year within professional development, I’m excited to welcome students back into the Be InspirED Educational Consulting Learning Lab for even more advanced and focused educational support.

The Learning Lab is designed for students who may need extra support in reading, math, or both areas. This is not about giving children more worksheets or making them feel behind. It is about meeting each student where they are, identifying the skills that need strengthening, and helping them build the confidence to keep growing.

The Learning Lab will operate in four-week sessions, and space will remain intentionally limited so that each student receives meaningful support.

Parents may also add a one-on-one support session focused on topics such as creating homework routines, communicating with their child, or managing behavior at home.

Once the available spaces are filled, a waitlist will begin.

When several referrals come from the same classroom, it can be easy to focus on the person instead of the pattern.

But a pattern is not a person.

Repeated referrals may be telling us that a teacher needs more support, a classroom routine is breaking down, students are becoming disconnected, or valuable instructional time is being lost.

None of that should automatically become a judgment against the teacher.

Teachers deserve support before disruption becomes the only data point leaders have available.

By the time a referral gets to the office, the classroom may have already lost more than a few minutes.

And that is the part I keep coming back to. Not just what happened with the student. But what happened to the lesson.

What happened to the rest of the class.

What happened to the teacher trying to recover the room and still keep instruction moving. Because let’s be real, teachers are already carrying a lot.

They are redirecting, documenting, calming the room, watching the clock, and still trying to teach.

So when we look at classroom disruption, I do not want us to only ask, “What happened?”

I want us to also ask:

**Where was instructional time already leaking before the referral?**

Not from a place of blame. Not from a place of shame. And not because student accountability does not matter. Because it does.

But teachers deserve support before disruption becomes the only data point.

Teachers do not need more pressure or blame.

Most are already trying to teach, redirect, recover, and keep the lesson moving.

When disruption repeats, the answer cannot simply be “try harder.”

School leaders need a clearer way to identify where support should begin.

Is the issue starting with routines?

Transitions?

Student disconnection?

Recovery after disruption?

The goal is not to call teachers out.

The goal is to help teachers get back to instruction.

No blame. No shame. Just systems to protect instructional time.
