I had so much fun substitute teaching for Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Concert Band& Percussion Ensemble at Everett H.S. on Monday! They had so many teachers out that day so during her prep period, someone dropped off a Sub folder and I had to hustle over to another building to Sub for a health class, meaning that my half hour lunch is the only break I had from 6:15am to 2pm and I was doing Attendance during lunch!I still had a snack! Then after I was done Subbing, I taught music lessons from 3 to 8:30. I left home at 5:45am and got home at 9pm, so it was a Very Long Day!!!!!
There’s a new attendance system that has recently been implemented and its on the computer, of course and many of the computers aren’t functioning well and/or it’s hard to locate the correct program onced ligged on, but I finally figured it out after trial and error during almost every passing period inbetwen classes, so I spent my 30 minute lunch break as well as the 30 minutes after her last class, to enter it after using a clip board and paper for the classes to write their names down the “old fashioned” way, lol!!! It took a while, as some classes had 40 students!
Anyway, I got to conduct and help rehearse each class/ensemble, which was definitely so much fun and absolutely my happy place. Most of the students seemed to appreciate that I am knowledgeable and can actually be helpful, since many Subs aren’t. They sounded amazing as well!
Please if you can keep me in your positive thoughts and specific prayers, I’m continuing to research pathways to earning my teaching certification and will be trying to figure out how we can afford to pay for that.
It would most likely be a full time program if I do music education, which is my passion and my Bachelor’s Degree subject matter, although there’s a high need for Sped Ed Teachers and since I have also been subbing as a Para Educator, working with differentjy abled students of all ages, I have really enjoyed the experience, Ive learned so kich and continue to, and it’s very rewarding.
Either way, it’s expensive, it’s time consuming, I would most likely need to stop working which means taking loans for my continuing education as well as to live, then that would have to paid back upon graduating. It’s doable, its only a year to a year and a half or two, depending upon the program if there’s a Masters involved. it’s also a big commitment and a bit stressful, but it’s exciting and I can do it. I believe in myself, so more will be revealed!
I’m glad I put myself out there and took the time (its quite a process) to apply to Substitute in two school districts because it has already been very educational, a great experience, for the most part very fun as well as challenging and at times, frustrating for different reasons, I’m able to give back in a different way, I’m getting to be introduced to and getting to know other staff, para’s and teachers, who all have been wonderful!
Some of my values or inspirations to live by;
Never stop learning, take healthy risks, try to have no regrets, always do your best in every situation, you can start your day over at any time, everyday is an audition/interview, you never know who you will meet or who is watching, do your best to make the world a better place, own your mistakes especially in regards to interacting with others, utilize teacheable moments, have integrity, be as positive as you can be, be present, don’t interrupt and use common sense!!!!
Happy Wednesday!!!!!😎🙏🎵🤗🎼😊🎶
