1. Choose schools whose mission statement aligns with your personal goals and values, especially if you have specific interests in primary care, rural medicine, research, and/or specific patient populations. Does the school have strengths in certain specialties that interest you?
2. Where do you want to spend at least 4 years of your life? Near family or a support system or exploring somewhere new? Rural or urban setting?

Reevaluate your medical school list. Lack of interviews can often be from a poorly constructed list.
Update your personal statement and consider adding an activity. You do not want to reuse the exact same application.
Consider getting updated letters of recommendation.

Here are three tips for building out a medical school list:
1. Take out a subscription to MSAR and start with your GPA and MCAT score. Does your GPA including your science GPA and MCAT score fall within range of the accepted medical school student at that particular school.
2. Read over the schoolβs mission. Do your experiences align with the mission statement of the medical school?
3. Ask your university pre-health advising office for a list of schools where students from your school have matriculated. Pay attention to the private schools on the list
