Today, we would love to highlight Project Harambee. In 2014, Project Harambee initiated the Grow-A-Doc/Nurse program to educate qualified students in healthcare professions, and has been providing special scholarships for St. Al’s students wishing to pursue studies in medical fields.

Project Harambee has sponsored a total of 23 St. Al’s graduates since 2010 — 10 who have completed their degrees and 13 who are still in college. They are becoming Doctors, Nurses, Clinical and Community Health Officers, Pharmacists, and Laboratory Specialists.

Today, we would like to highlight the Journey of Hope - an all-inclusive two week trip to visit the school for the annual St. Al’s Day celebration, and to see other Jesuit ministries in Nairobi, visit cultural sites, and take a three-day safari in Masai Mara. Today, we would like to spotlight St. Al’s Graduates Program. The Graduates program offers career guidance to the students based on their academic strengths and career interests. St. Al’s endeavors to transition all the graduates to universities, colleges and technical & vocational educational training to pursue degree, diploma and certificate courses. The school supports the graduates in need of funds for tuition, food, and housing not covered by other scholarships.

Today, we would like to spotlight St. Al’s Mustard Seed Program. Created in 2014 by a generous donor, and headed by one of our early graduates, the Mustard Seed program focuses on what they call “The Habit of Work.” Mustard Seed assists graduates with resumes, cover letters, internships, job search, interview skills, and developing a positive attitude for the work place. Participants meet for monthly workshops, and to support one another by sharing successes and challenges.

Today, we would like to highlight community service at St. Al's. From January to June each year, students volunteer at non-profits in Kibera (schools, health centers, center for kids with disabilities) and participate in weekly reflections at school on Fridays. The students truly embody the meaning of being men and women for others.

Through monthly all-day Saturday sessions, the boys and girls Mentorship program connects students with caring adults for workshops and activities focused on leadership skills, self-esteem, and life skills to support the students in making informed personal and career choices.

They co-facilitate the Kairos retreat (called Quest in Kenya) for third year students, spend time at the school, and participate in the annual St. Al’s Day celebration!

Today we want to highlight existing STEM experiences at the school… the healthcare programs!

1. We are so blessed to have an annual visit from a group of Nursing students from University of MI-Flint. These students provide medical exams for all students and provide workshops on a variety of health topics. Thank you for all you do!

2. The alumni run health fair is a great opportunity for the students to learn more about healthcare and explore career opportunities. Thank you alumni for coming back to make this happen each year!

3. The school nurses provide pivotal care to the students of St. Al's every day! Thank you for your unwavering support.

Today, we would like to spotlight the STEM expansion for St. Al's!

The Kenyan Ministry of Education is instituting a new Competency-Based Education system. As a result, beginning in 2026, St. Aloysius Gonzaga will become a Senior Secondary School, serving 10th-12th graders.
The school will offer two Pathways:
- Social Sciences
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
As part of our STEM expansion, we have just broken ground on a new building which will house three new STEM laboratories for electrical, home sciences, and construction technology.
