Bucktown Academy

The Sprouts classroom celebrated the culmination of their ‘Backyard Birds’ unit with a special bird picnic. We made a bird feeder together, read a few of our favorite stories, and enjoyed a snack as a classroom at the park. We talked about everything we learned in the last few weeks and went bird watching as well! We spotted a robin in the trees and listened to its calling. It was a wonderful morning in nature! 💚🐦🌱

✨ Saplings Field Trip Alert! ✨

Our students embarked on a walking trip to .chicago where they extended their art unit to real-life and hands-on experiences. Our Sapling students were able to observe step-by-step how artists create pottery pieces and were able to create a piece of their own! A beautiful plate marked with each child’s fingerprint. A huge and special thank you to .chicago for welcoming us into their gorgeous space. We had an incredible time! 🎨🏺💜

💚 Saplings: Our older preschool students have been studying various mediums of art and learning about artists such as Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, and Georges Seurat.

💚 Sprouts: Our younger students started a new ‘Backyard Birds’ unit and have been studying robin nests. Our little ornithologists have begun identifying and learning about robins, cardinals, blue jays, crows and much more!

💚 School Community: We started planting in our classrooms! Our students will care for the seeds as they grow into sprouts and eventually, get transferred into our Learning Garden. This years theme — Fairy Garden! 🧚🏻

We are so excited to share that we have hired a new Teacher Assistant to join our amazing team!

Ms. Colin will be joining our Saplings classroom as a Teacher Assistant and will also support our extended care program. We are thrilled to welcome her to Bucktown Academy.

Stephanie Colin brings several years of experience working with young children, most recently as a Pre-K Lead Teacher. She has a strong background in creating engaging classroom environments, lesson planning, and building positive relationships with children and families.

Stephanie is currently pursuing her Associate Degree in Early Childhood and is passionate about supporting children’s learning, growth, and curiosity. She values open communication with families and enjoys helping to create a warm, positive classroom community. We are so happy to have her join our team and look forward to the care and enthusiasm she will bring to our school.

We love this photo that Ms. Guaman took while on a nature walk! During the week, the Sprouts’ classroom explore their neighborhood and carefully observe the seasonal changes surrounding them. A class favorite is the sound of the crunchy leaves under our shoes as we take in the beauty of Bucktown. 🍂💛

We went to go see ‘Elephant & Piggie’s: We’re in a Play’ at ! We also said hi to Ms. Galluzzo and our kiddos were so excited to see her. 🎭☺️

SO excited to share that we are collaborating with for our BOO-BASH at Bucktown Academy! 👻💜 We can’t wait to see what amazing art project they will put together for the children to create and take home!
