I'm doing a really cool event for the Park District! đA Christmas Pajama Party Sing-Along!đđŚ
I wanted to give families a chance to take a break from all the stress of the holidays to create a really special Christmas memory. I know the flyer says up to 3rd grade, but I should have told them to write "for kids from 1 to 92!" đ°+đĽ=đ

"THERE'S A SPIDER ON THE FLOOR!" Song and game.
"There's a Spider on the Floor" (Tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It." Lyrics by Rafi (verse 3 by The Kiboomers). Game by Jennifer McCormick of Kitty-Orca Music & Piano)
Verse 1:
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor,
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor,
There's a spider on the floor, who could ask for anything more,
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor!
2. There's a spider on my leg...and he's really, really big!
3. There's a spider on my chest...and it's really not the best!
4. There's a spider on my neck...I think I'm gonna be a wreck!
5. There's a spider on my face...Oh what a big disgrace!
6. There's a spider on my head...I wish I was home in bed!
Eeek--get it off, get it off, get it off!!!!
7. There's a spider on the floor...I think I'll show him the door!
Game:
In class we scrunched up silk play scarves to be our "spider." Start with the spider-scarf on the floor, and move it to each body part as you sing it. Adults should move the scarves on their own bodies, and allow toddlers and preschoolers to move their own scarves on their own bodies. For babies, move the scarf on the baby's body to help them develop tactile awareness of their different body parts as you name them.
Of course you can use a plastic or rubber spider if you have one! But any child-safe object will work!
Did you play this game with your child? Tell us in the comments how much fun you had!

"BLACK AND YELLOW GARDEN SPIDER" Song and Game!
"Black and Yellow Garden Spider" (Sung to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," Lyrics by Jennifer McCormick. Game created by Jennifer McCormick, after Bluey episode "Seesaw," S2, E28)
Black and yellow garden spider,
Spin your web a little wider.
Make it sticky on the side,
So that you can catch that fly!
Black and yellow garden spider,
Spin your web a little wider.
Game: Lay out a blanket, parachute, or use a spider web feature at a park.
Baby/toddler version:
Place child in the middle of the blanket, and tell them they are a fly stuck in the spiderweb. Tell them you will be the spider and catch them in a hug. You go to the edge of the blanket. Start singing the song and creep towards your child with a playful expression on your face. At "so that you can catch that fly," grab kiddo in a gentle hug and pretend to kiss or eat them all up. Kids will giggle! Again!
Preschool/Kindergarten/Elementary version:
Tell your child that they will be the fly. Practice buzzing together and flying silly loop patterns around (but not on) the blanket. When you're ready, your child gets to decide whether they want to be caught, or get away. Tell your child that you will be the spider and try to catch them when they get stuck in the web! Go to the edge of the blanket and wait...
Kids be flies, buzz around, and pretend to get stuck in the web. Everyone sings "Black and yellow garden spider..." and the spider creeps closer to the stuck fly. If the child wants to be caught, catch them at "so that you can catch that fly," and give them a snuggle. If they want to escape, they suddenly become "free" instead of being caught, and buzz away, saying "Not today, Mrs./Mr./Silly Spider!" The spider declares, "Oh, you cheeky fly!"
Then, switch roles, and grownups get to be the fly, and kids get to be the spider! Does your child want you to get away? Or do they want to catch you and eat you up?
Leave a comment and let me know how your game went!!
