How Do We Talk With Children About Race? A Virtual 8-Week Course (Chicago) 01/06/2021

Hello Everyone!
My colleague over at Speak Up, and I are gearing up to run another course on talking with children about race. So, do you talk with your children about race? Does the concept make you nervous, unsure, confused? Is it something that you're pretty good at and you have insight to share?
How DO we talk to our children about race and racism?
It CAN be done, and done well!
Having antiracist conversations and taking action together helps you to connect with your child and empowers them to be change-makers from an early age. Engaging children in authentic conversations is a critical step in transforming our world, and protecting the bodies and lives of BIPOC people.
Sign up for this dynamic and affordable course that I co-facilitate with an antiracist education colleague. For 2021 we are offering a National cohort in addition to our local (Chicago-area) cohort. All series are now virtual so EVERYONE can attend!
We have just a few more spaces available in each series so clink the link quickly to learn more and register!

Here's another great opportunity!

An affordable virtual workshop: The Impact of the Times on the Caregiver/Child Dyad: Boosting Resiliency Today and Beyond

December 9, 2020, 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Facilitator: Siemone Smith, MA, LPC

2020 has been an unprecedented year for most families in America. Navigating multiple issues has an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of young children and their families, but this year the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic in the midst of national civil unrest threatens to upend the strengths and resiliency of the families we serve. In this seminar we will explore the impact of current events on the child/caregiver relationship and tap into specific and potentially unique stresses facing young children and families of color. Focus will be given to ways to explore potential impact today and in the future, and ways to strengthen and boost the dyad resiliency.

About the Facilitator:
Siemone has worked in the Infant Mental Health field for over 10 years, with a focus on Trauma Informed practices. She has worked in Chicago’s Englewood area providing trauma focused therapy and support services to families throughout the community and families involved with child protective services. She currently works for Erikson Institute’s Fussy Baby Network, providing support services to families who have concerns with their young children. Siemone is a clinician trained in Child-Parent Psychotherapy.
