Comment “MBM” and I’ll send you all my off ice (and on ice) training resources because not only do they work but you can also trust that they’re accurate and will really help you because they were made by a current figure skating coach who coaches competitive figure skaters daily (so it’s my actual job) and because I was a former team USA pair skater who competed at a super high level, is 3x national medalist, world team member, and yeah you get the picture😉✨➡️

Look it might be a little intimidating at first but actual telling your coach,

“I don’t understand what you mean”
“doing it that way doesn’t feel comfortable”
“I’m really scared to do this”
“I don’t feel ready”

Little cues communicated by the athlete to the coach are huge!

If the coach knows these things they can change their approach, their verbiage, the exercises they are using, change up their plan, etc.

Knowing these little insights are so helpful and it is very healthy for student to have good rapport with their coaches.

Everything is extremely situational in coaching and everything always changes but I will say coaches and athletes that communicate effectively have more productive lessons 😊

Figure Skaters love to be perfect

It’s a gift and a curse and as a recovering perfectionist I can tell you while it’s get you want to do the best you absolutely can, it should never derail you from practicing.

Because AVOIDING MISTAKES IS NOT THE SAME AS NOT MAKING MISTAKES.

This always happens and again it’s normal life happens and that’s part of learning how to train but even 15minutes of going over off ice rotations, doing some good active recovery, or stretching is better than nothing and will keep your body engaged.

Is 15minutes enough no but 15minutes 4 times a week is better than do zero minutes and starting over again.

Bad days are part of being an athlete

Figure skaters you have to fall before you can land

and most of the time it means a lot of falling, bad programs, terrible spins, and feeling like your never gonna get it but then it clicks. And you got it.

Comment “Flex” and I’ll send you my Flawless Flexibility program that will get your spiral higher in 6weeks!

Spirals are so important in figure skating! Why?

-they show elegance, strength, balance, edge control, and can truly be a jaw dropping move in a performance that can captivate the judges and audience.

-they are also a basic skating skill because spirals develop balance, core strength, flexibility, edge control, weight on the blade, and hip hinge that will be needed on future harder skills.

So learning your spiral correctly is important and it can be simple.

My two biggest things:

1.) remember to stand tall on your skating leg (foot on the ice first) then lift your leg.

2.) the second thing is never compromise number 1 because you are only focused on getting your leg higher. Getting your leg high is a combination of flexibility and strength and practice. Throwing your leg up and hoping for the best is not a good strategy and will probably lead to you tripping over your toepicks.

Build the foundation, work on your flexibility and active flexibility so you can have strength and flexibility and you’ll be amazing at how quickly your spiral will improve.

Alsooo, if you’re just seeing this hiii I’m Mary Beth Mary Beth Marley | Professional Figure Skating Coach and I’m a professional figure skating coach, former team USA figure skater, world pair skater, 3x national medalist & triple gold medalist

Struggle with your forward scratch spin position? Try thinking about this!

Now I’m not telling you what to do - but if you’re tired of your knee being open, traveling, and not knowing why your spin feels off it’s probably because of the two reasons I mentioned in the video

so try it out, let me know what you think, like, save, comment, for more ⭐️

Comment “MBM” for my Standout Skater System that is ALLLLL of my programs into one. You get what years of private skate lessons would give you all in one place. So comment “MBM”, I’ll send you the link to purchase my system that has taken hundreds of skaters to standout skaters!

We all know the judging can be all over the place in figure skating and yeah that’s true it can be, but here’s how you work the system to your favor.

Don’t wear the underwear, and I know your coach told you not to, I know it.

Literally work the system and the fastest way to tank your presentation is to wear giant white granny panties under your competition dress which I know you spent hundreds of dollars on.

I see it at every competition I go to and nothing drives a judge off the deep end then seeing the giant white underwear.

You said you wanted to compete so you can’t want to compete and be sheepish skating to your spot.

Again work the system. Stand tall and proud and stop using “oh I was nervous” as an excuse to hide because here’s the hard truth. There will be skaters in the group that have no problem doing this and that will make a better impression.

So remember to skate confidently and proudly.

5 minute warm ups are not a chance for the judges to see you trying. No they’re watching so be strategic about your warm up it is very important.

Smile!!!! Literally so simple!!! Smile and you’ll see it will make a big difference in your performance and score!

Comment “MBM” and learn how to work the system with my STANDOUT SKATER SYSTEM!

Trust me these make a biggest difference and you can thank me later!

Comment “👍” & I’ll elaborate more on this because when I say I literally had 30seconds I legit did because my lesson was just about to start but I needed to capture this common skating skill mistake that plagues a lot of skaters although it is a basic fundamental skating skill.

You’d be surprised at how many skater get away with doing this incorrectly for so long but it is something that shouldn’t be overlooked because jt applies to everything like stepping into spins, going from R over L backward crossovers to R over L forward crossovers, and more.

If you want me to explain this further give me a thumbs up👍 in the comments and I’ll elaborate more!

Comment “MBM” for access to all my programs which will prepare you for your best training on the ice and keep you from falling into these bad habits that a lot of figure skaters make!

Keep swiping for more bc it’s the truth➡️

And it’s even more legit because I’m a real full time figure skating coach that has trained hundreds of athletes from swizzles, twizzles, and all triples… so yeah I know not just from being a former team USA skater myself and because this is what my coaches told me were bad I know because I know as a coach myself I’ve seen these habits take skaters that had great potential and were improving to a complete halt and not recover.

But remember that’s why I’m here to bring more of this figure skating knowledge to light so you don’t have to make the same mistakes and save yourself lots of time, heartache, and let’s face it money bc mistakes are costly.

Remember comment “MBM” for all of my programs and to not neglect your off ice training or miss a chance to prepare yourself the best that you can to support all of your figure skating goals

10/10 bad… you can always tell what skaters at competition do this at practice because they not only can’t recover after a mistake they crumble.

Listen no one likes doing a crappy program, okay they just don’t. It sucks, you feel like you’ve failed and it does feel like the end of the world.

But you would much rather have a couple days like that at practice and learn how to work through them then be unprepared and bomb at a competition that actually mattered.

Stay disciplined at practice and don’t stop that music.

You can’t be taking 5,000 water and tissue breaks. You will survive. There is only so much time you get on the ice, don’t waste it.

The ultimate kiss of death - anyone who knows someone with this popping or circling issue knows it is a mental beast that is frustrating for everyone involved and one of the fastest ways to ending your progress, giving you no chance at real consistency, and constantly doubting yourself which just fuels the cycle again.

How to fight it, celebrate every small win, avoid embarrassment and neg

Comment “30” & I’ll send you my ELITE EDGE 30 program✨⛸️

Hi, im former team usa figure skater⛸️🇺🇸

I’ve created a 4-week strength program designed specifically for figure skaters to help your figure skater become stronger, more explosive, and more confident

So they can stop looking exhausted halfway through their program, only landing jumps inconsistently in practice outside the program.

Watch them start confidently executing consistent reps and hit more CLEAN programs in both practice and competition!

Because jumps, spins, overall performance, and consistency don’t magically appear… especially under pressure.

They’re TRAINED

Inside ELITE EDGE 30:
✔️ HIIT Conditioning
✔️ Plyometrics
✔️ Strength & Stability
✔️ Single Leg Strength
✔️ Core Engagement
✔️ Jump Rotations
✔️ Body Awareness: including being able to adjust & modify exercises and workouts to fit your needs and your schedule

No random workouts.
No fluff.
Just targeted training that actually transfers to the ice, to your programs, and to your goals💫
