Advocacy starts here — and it starts with our own. 🌟
We are so proud of our very own LULAC IL 5238 Board Member Sofia Gonzalez for bringing the power of advocacy straight to the students of Morton East High School!
Sofia — Fulbright Scholar, Speaker, Education Activist, and Educator Advisory Council Fellow with Advance Illinois— connected her students with Advance Illinois associates Isabel and Maty, who led a hands-on advocacy training to prepare them for Advocacy Day in Springfield, IL.
These students aren't just learning about advocacy — they're heading to the state capital to fight for something real: $550 million in evidence-based funding for education. Because our kids deserve fully resourced schools, and that fight starts now. 💪
Thank you to Sofia, Isabel, Maty, and the entire Advance Illinois team for investing in our students and our community.
This is what research-driven, community-rooted advocacy looks like in action!

LULAC Council #5238 also stood shoulder to shoulder at the Chicago protest.
We were there representing LULAC, the oldest Latino civil rights organization, alongside other LULAC of Illinois councils. Proud to have our Council President Claudia Arroyo, Founder Caroline Sanchez Crozier and Board Member Rogelio Sanchez on the ground, standing for democracy, immigrant voices, and human rights. ✊

LULAC Council #5238 at the Protest ✊🏽
On October 18th, Board Member Raul Sanchez and Council Member Dani Sanchez proudly represented LULAC 5238 at the protest in Oak Park, IL — holding up our LULAC signs among an estimated 4,000–6,000 people standing for democracy and freedom.
🗣️ Raul Sanchez: “I think our country is moving in the wrong direction. This isn’t a left or right moment. It’s a right or wrong moment. I am protesting to protect our democracy and the rule of law.”
🗣️ Dani Sanchez: “It is my civic right to stand up for America. We are fighting for our constitution and freedom of speech. No Kings In America.”
