Founded 60 years ago, our studio has reshaped cities and changed minds with a group of professionals sharing the same passion for architecture, design, and technology. Our approach is based on the principles of integrated design, cultural and site-specific research, and close collaboration with our clients and partners. Powered by the people and ideas it brings together, our work spans four contin
ents and encompasses a range of typologies and scales. We come to the studio from different places and perspectives, equipped with multiple talents, abilities, and backgrounds. From our office in Chicago, our architects and designers collaborate with the most innovative engineers, fabricators, and builders to create architecture of authenticity and integrity. Through it all, we have never stopped changing. Inspired by the ideals embodied by our founders, Charles F. and Helmut Jahn FAIA, we are just as restless and curious as we were in 1937. Today, our studio prizes a vibrant, diverse, and co-creative culture where ideas are ceaselessly tested and challenged. Guided by the veteran team of Evan Jahn, Philip Castillo FAIA, and Steven Cook FAIA, we have opened new paths of aesthetic and construction discovery, putting to use the most current materials and research available. The result is a body of work that speaks for itself, addressing urban responsibility, performance, engineering synthesis, attention to detail, and sustainability by design. Lynda Dossey, AIA and Philip Castillo, FAIA accepted the Preservation Excellence Award for New Construction of 1000M Chicago from the City of Chicago Department of Planning & Development on behalf of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. Rising from one of the last undeveloped parcels in the Historic Michigan Boulevard District, the tower carefully respects the scale and character of its historic surroundings. Thank you to Commissioner Ciere Boatright and Commission Chair Ernest Wong, FASLA for celebrating this recognition with us.

1000M Chicago has received a Preservation Excellence Award from the City of Chicago Department of Planning & Development. As the tallest building ever constructed within a Chicago Landmark District, 1000M demonstrates how contemporary high-density development can thoughtfully coexist with Chicago’s architectural heritage. Designed in response to the Historic Michigan Boulevard District, the tower carefully steps upward toward taller buildings to the south while respecting the established scale and character of its historic surroundings, showing how landmark districts can continue to evolve while honoring their legacy. Design Evanston members were treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour this weekend at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library - PMML in Wisconsin, led by Jahn/’s Phil Castillo.
Phil shared insights into the project’s design vision, construction, and the layered storytelling embedded throughout the building. The visit highlighted the museum’s strong relationship between architecture and narrative, as well as the collaborative process that shaped its realization.
Members also explored the nearly 15,000 square feet of below-grade archival storage and walked the landscaped grounds, gaining a fuller understanding of how the building’s program, landscape, and structure work together as an integrated whole.

Evan Jahn will serve on the jury for the 2026 ICONIC AWARDS, presented by the German Design Council. As part of an independent international panel of leading experts in architecture, interior design, and product design, Evan will join fellow jurors in May to review submissions and select this year’s award recipients.
The ICONIC AWARDS is a prestigious interdisciplinary platform recognizing excellence in architecture, interior design, and product innovation. Celebrating innovative approaches and design excellence across borders, the program also fosters dialogue and new opportunities for collaboration. In previous years, the awards have received up to 800 submissions from more than 45 countries worldwide.
Across global markets, Jahn continues to extend the life and relevance of iconic structures through strategic repositioning and renovations. From the transformation of the Charlemagne Building in Brussels back in the 90s, to the reimagined lobby experience at Messeturm in Frankfurt in the 2020s, each intervention, whether small or large, enhances performance, user experience, and long-term value.
In Berlin, the adaptive reuse of Sony Center Building B2 converts a former IMAX theater into vibrant office and retail space, while in Chicago, the lobby renovation at 120 North LaSalle refreshes a prominent workplace destination, elevating arrival, circulation, and tenant experience. The ongoing repositioning of the Thompson Center reconsiders one of the city’s most recognizable civic landmarks for a new era.
Together, these projects reflect our commitment to sustainable reinvention, leveraging renewed design ideas to unlock the potential within existing buildings and shape their next chapter.

Art Omi Pavilions will comprise of 18 individual pavilions and a Visitor Center located in Chatham, New York. Visitors will explore exhibitions that showcase the work of select artists and collectors in a setting that they control and design. He shared the transformation of this modern Chicago icon, highlighting advancements in façade technology, the reimagining of transitional spaces, sustainability strategies, and the building’s strategic repositioning.

Last evening, Philip Castillo, FAIA, and Lynda Dossey, AIA, LEED AP joined Francis Greenburger, of Time Equities Inc. to discuss his new book Autobiography of a Skyscraper, reflecting on the vision and collaboration behind 1000M Chicago. Almost a decade in the making, the luxury residential tower evolved through a complex journey, shaped by the perspectives of the developers, investors, and with our firm. Guests gathered on the 73rd floor to hear the stories that ultimately brought the building to life.
