“here is your hope climbing up in a tree
here is your dream in the cordial debris
here is your wish at the bottom of the sea
whales at your window lights in the deep”
- Caroline Lucius
Caroline’s singing, songwriting, recording and performing is personal, a real-life experience, and a flight of intelligent imagination. Her voice is clear and strong. Her music artfully crosses the familiarity-surprise tightrope. It first evokes a raised eyebrow, then stands the hairs up on the back of the neck. She’s singing the truth and you can feel it.
Guitar friends Caroline and brother Schaeffer Lucius collaborate on performing, arranging and writing their music. Schaeffer’s brilliant guitar settings of Caroline’s performances never interfere with the performance, and like the music of the great film composers, they are essential to the performance.

The guitar fretboard is a two-dimensional playground
- Howard Roberts*
In learning experiences with students, collaborators and friends, I’ve come to realize how important spatial thinking is to guitar playing and to all learning.
“Spatial thinking must be recognized as a fundamental part of K–12 education and as an integrator and a facilitator for problem solving across the curriculum.” -Learning to Think Spatially
*(Howard was quoting someone else when he said this, but I don’t know who)

“Every artist is part of the building blocks of our social creative consciousness. With every note we play with honest intention, we tear down a part of the injustices in the world. Love and music are indeed one.”
-Van Gordon Martin
Van started his musical journey at the age of seven, learning to play, and polishing and stringing guitars in a music shop. Not so many years later, Bernie Worrell, legendary Parliament Funkadelic and Talking Heads keyboardist, discovered and mentored Van, setting him on a new path in his musical journey..
