REPEAT AFTER ME: SEEDS ARE HEALTHY!
If you’ve ever been on a bird group, you have heard someone rattle off the myth that “seed is unhealthy” or “seed has no nutrition.” I see these claims everyday and I can tell you that, with even a 2-minute google search, you can immediately see the nutritional value in seeds. By nature, seeds have to capture and store beneficial nutrients to jumpstart plant growth, since seeds don’t yet have leaves to perform photosynthesis and generate their own energy. These storage nutrients are also packed into seeds along with other beneficial components to make seeds a vital part of the diverse whole food diet. Should your bird be on an all-seed diet? Absolutely not! But they shouldn’t be on a mostly pelleted diet either as too much of any one food item is never recommended. Diversify your bird’s diet and include a healthy mix of seeds as part of the evening meal after they’ve had fresh foods during the day. Soaking and sprouting seeds offers a different set of nutrients and is also beneficial… these should be offered along with fresh fruits and veg each morning. More options at the shop link in our bio.

Someone recently asked me about “salt” consumption and I had to explain how the sodium parrots are accessing in clays is not the same as table salt, for example. This is one reason my work with Dr. EV Voltura in creating our clay products for parrots is so important as we are creating these with this important distinction in mind. WILD PARROT DIET RESEARCH: This semester is round 2 for our collaborative research project where my university students continue to analyze published papers on wild parrot diets and contribute to a growing database that helps us better understand the diversity of foodstuffs consumed. WHAT A WEEKEND!
First, thanks to all of our loyal patrons and those who have given us a shot this month for the first time… we have officially had our most successful month ever! And every month you help us grow more and more! We never dreamed of this success so you’ve all exceeded our expectations and are thrilled you and your birds like what we are creating!

LOTS OF NEW PRODUCTS RELEASED THIS WEEKEND:
We released our new Soak Spring soak and serve blend, new Corkbark Creations, fresh Natural Selections foraging blends with some new surprises added in and our Freeze-dried Tropical Bird Bites (all pictured here in this post).
