May has been full of creativity, learning, and a little zebra-striped fun in our Larks classroom! 🌸🎨🦓
This month, our Larks proudly made it all the way to the letter Z! To celebrate, the children created zebra finger paintings, helping reinforce letter recognition in a fun, hands-on way. Finger painting is such a wonderful early childhood activity because it strengthens fine motor skills, encourages creativity, and supports sensory exploration while helping children connect letters with meaningful experiences.
The Larks also worked so hard on their Mother’s Day gifts, using clay to create heart-shaped jewelry holders and painting them with lots of love. These special projects help build hand strength, coordination, patience, and self-expression, while giving children the joy of making something meaningful for their families.
We are so proud of all their hard work, creativity, and growth this month! ❤️🦓🎨

🌷🔬 The Larks are becoming little scientists as they explore the wonders of spring!
This season, we are learning about the exciting changes happening in the world around us—from sunshine, rain, and clouds to the way plants begin to grow and awaken after winter. The children will observe flowers starting to bloom and engage in hands-on activities, like creating their own raindrops, as they discover the beauty of the season.
Through these experiences, the Larks are practicing how to care for plants and learning what they need to grow, all while using their senses to observe, explore, and talk about the natural world around them.
Spring is a season of growth, discovery, and new beginnings, and the Larks are so excited to explore it together! 🌼💧🌱

🌱 Planting with the Mockingbirds
Our Mockingbirds had a wonderful time exploring the process of planting seeds through hands-on discovery. Using their senses, the children touched and smelled the soil, added water, and carefully mixed everything together before placing their seeds inside.
This experience supported sensory exploration, early science learning, and growing confidence as the children participated in each step of the planting process. Activities like these invite curiosity and help our young learners begin to understand how living things grow and change over time. 🌼

✨ Scarves & Mirror Exploration in Our Bluebirds Classroom
In our infant classroom, even the simplest materials can become meaningful tools for discovery. During this recent exploration, the babies engaged with colorful scarves and mirrors—reaching, grasping, pulling, and watching their reflections as they moved. These moments supported early sensory processing, fine motor development, and growing curiosity about themselves and the world around them.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we view infants as capable, thoughtful learners from the very beginning. By offering open-ended materials like scarves and reflective surfaces, we create opportunities for children to investigate color, movement, texture, and identity at their own pace. Experiences like this help lay the foundation for confidence, connection, and joyful exploration—long before language fully emerges. 🌈🪞

Our Cardinals have been closely observing how the world changes as the seasons shift, sparking thoughtful conversations about plants, growth, and the environments around us 🌱
To deepen this exploration, friends engaged with our much-loved dirt sensory bin, featuring spaces for water, grass, and soil—inviting hands-on discovery, imaginative play, and scientific thinking. We also practiced early math skills through a grass and carrot find-and-count game, carefully searching, sorting, and counting each hidden carrot 🥕🔍
Literacy connections continued through seasonal stories and creative letter work. In our spray-and-reveal activity, friends uncovered the letters E and F, combining sensory excitement with early alphabet recognition 💧✨
These experiences support curiosity, observation, and joyful learning as our Cardinals continue making connections between the classroom and the natural world around them.

Our Bluebirds dove into a colorful literary adventure today inspired by One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss! 📚🐟
After reading together and exploring the bright fish in the story, our little learners discovered their own red and blue fish made with paper and craft sticks—an engaging way to begin recognizing early color concepts. The fun continued with a hands-on painting activity using blue paint and cotton balls, where friends enjoyed the sensory experience of texture and movement while strengthening their fine motor skills.
Moments like these blend storytelling, sensory exploration, and early art experiences—helping our youngest friends build connections through color, creativity, and play. ❤️💙🎨

🍀✨ A Little Luck & Lots of Learning! ✨🍀
Our friends celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a magical sensory experience full of gold coins, leprechaun hats, and rainbows! 🌈💰🍀
Using tweezers and tiny buckets, our little learners worked hard to scoop, sort, and discover hidden treasures—strengthening fine motor skills while having so much fun!
This hands-on sensory play invited curiosity, exploration, and imaginative storytelling as friends dug through the sand in search of their own pot of gold ✨
We love watching their excitement as they learn through play! 💚

🍀 Getting Ready for St. Patrick’s Day in the Bluebirds Classroom! 🌈
Our Bluebirds friends are getting into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit! Using cardstock, contact paper, and shreds of green and yellow paper, the children created a beautiful festive art project that will brighten up our classroom.
This hands-on experience invited our little toddlers to explore textures, practice their fine motor skills, and express their creativity while working with vibrant colors. We love watching our Bluebirds take pride in their creations and celebrate the joy of the season together.
Who knows… maybe a little luck of the Irish will follow! 🍀✨

🍋🔬 Learning Through Exploration in the Larks Classroom!
Our Larks friends continued their letter projects and science explorations this week as we focused on the letter “L.” What better way to learn than with a lemon? 🍋
Many friends tried lemons for the very first time, exploring new tastes, textures, and hilarious facial expressions 😄. Sensory experiences like this spark curiosity, build language skills, and help children gain confidence as they discover the world around them.
With all the conversations about cold weather and snow, the Larks also stepped into the role of little scientists and made their very own snow! ❄️ Through mixing, scooping, and experimenting, friends practiced problem-solving, observation, and hands-on discovery, all while strengthening their fine motor skills.
At Songbird, learning happens through curiosity, play, and exploration—and we love watching our Larks discover something new each day. 🌿✨

🎨 Watercolor Wonders in the Mockingbirds Classroom! 💧🌈
Our Mockingbirds have been busy exploring the magic of watercolor painting this week! With a splash of water and a brush full of color, the children discovered how dried paint comes back to life and transforms into beautiful, flowing colors.
We loved watching their curiosity grow as they experimented with mixing colors, noticing how new shades appear right before their eyes. Moments like these turn simple painting into a little science experiment and a lot of creative fun!
Beyond creativity, watercolor painting also helps strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and focus as little artists carefully guide their brushes across the paper.
At Songbird, we believe art is more than just a finished painting—it’s about the process of exploring, discovering, and expressing ideas. And our Mockingbirds did just that! 🖌️✨

🌈✨ Color, Color Everywhere in the Larks Room! ✨🌈
This week our Larks dove into a vibrant exploration of all things COLOR! 🎨🟥🟦🟨
We practiced sorting colorful toys, strengthening our thinking skills while discovering how colors group together. We rolled our color dice and searched high and low to find matching colors all around the classroom — turning our space into a rainbow scavenger hunt! 🎲🌈
Of course, we couldn’t resist the joy of colorful balloons floating and bouncing through the room (hello, movement and coordination fun! 🎈).
Storytime was just as bright and beautiful with:
📖 The Color Monster
📖 Mouse Paint
📖 Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes
Through play, movement, and stories, we explored how colors can express feelings, spark creativity, and brighten even the grayest winter days. ❄️💛
The Larks definitely brought the sunshine inside this week! 🌤️🌈
