The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services is excited to offer a free opportunity for 15 girls and young women ages 17 to 21, who experience disproportionate discipline in schools and beyond, to participate in a digital course series with Monique Couvson, Ed.D., focused on creating joyful and effective learning spaces.

Participants in this online, self-guided course will have opportunities to engage directly with Dr. Couvson and other girls throughout Chicagoland, culminating in a final event at the close of the class.

Dr. Couvson is an award-winning author, scholar and documentarian with three decades of experience in the areas of education, civil rights, juvenile and criminal justice, and philanthropy. Recognized by TIME as a racial justice “Closer” in 2025 and by The Root 100 as one of the nation’s most influential African Americans in 2022, Dr. Couvson is the President and CEO of G4GC, a premier philanthropic intermediary focused on resourcing movements and organizations that center the wisdom and wellbeing of girls and gender expansive youth of color.

🗓️ The application period for this course closes in early September.
