30 years ago today, Talk Talk released their fifth and final studio album, “Laughing Stock”. It continues to be in rotation at the LR&D studio especially those days when the hypnotic, multi-instrumental ensembles helps you slide into the vacuum of productivity.

This post-rock / art rock project received high praise, even though most people will remember the band for it’s earlier released synth-pop and new wave hits such as, “It’s My Life” (It’s My Life: 1984) and the self titled, “Talk Talk” (The Party’s Over: 1982). Pitchfork named it the eleventh best album of the 90s and in 2007, Stylus Magazine named it the greatest post-rock album. Also needing recognition is the cover art created by illustrator and designer, James Marsh.

Service design looks at the entire user journey, such as what your impression might be when you first encounter a commercial space, or what it might feel like when landing on company’s web site, as well as customizable experiences for a vacation getaway and something as simple as surprise gifts in product packaging. by Chip + Dan Heath is a required reading at LR&D. It dives deep into experiences both memorable as well as life changing.

What do you do when your hard disk drive craps out on you? Well first, you remove it and get it replaced. Then you take the original apart. It put up a good fight and in the end, I couldn’t help but inspect the beautiful componentry and share it with you all.
