• Have you met the CCUSC Community Mental Health Intern, Nate Chang Sawyer, this year?
• Have you spent time with Nate in any capacity and want to share what you’ve learned or appreciated?
•Do you think this role is important for CCUSC and do you want it to continue?
Last year, UIC administration agreed to pilot an embedded mental health provider in the Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change - now known as the CCUSC Community Mental Health Intern. Come join us for a conversation about the role in a report back about how the year has gone. We’ll hear from Nate about their experience piloting the role this year, explore how the non-medicalized framing of mental health has expanded access and care for students, and collaboratively envision the future of this initiative. We’ll also learn from students, faculty, and CCUSC staff about how the CCUSC Community Mental Health Intern position has impacted us and added a layer of depth to the work we do.
Audience note: Anyone is welcome to join this event.
COVID safety information: UIC does not require masking, but we are still masking indoors as an accessibility measure for chronically ill/immunocompromised folks and those living interdependently with them. Please wear a mask if it’s accessible to you! We’ll have extras on hand. Please note that people may be unmasking to eat or drink.
Access information: CART (live captions) will be provided. The ArabAmCC is located in the basement of BSB and is accessible via elevator. We are trying to make the event as low-fragrance as possible, so we ask that you please skip the cologne or perfume to make this a fragrance-reduced environment!

Give a Spark and support our cultural centers! go.uic.edu/Spark-Engagement
As University of Illinois Chicago kicks off Give a Spark Day, the UIC community is proud to announce a transformative commitment from generous alumna Kay Schwichtenberg (MBA ‘84), who has contributed $250,000 to support student success. Her leadership gift sets the tone for a day focused on expanding opportunity, fueling innovation and strengthening the impact of scholarships, groundbreaking research and world-class patient care. Give a Spark reflects UIC’s powerful mission to advance both access and excellence — proving that the two go hand in hand while transforming lives across Chicago and communities throughout Illinois and beyond.
This is more than a fundraising event — it’s a movement. Your spark can leave a mark. Will you join us?
