Operations synopsis:

Students work intensively together with highly accredited teaching artists daily, engaging in high-energy orchestra rehearsals, group lessons, chamber ensembles, choir, bucket band, and theory classes. They experiment with improvisation and composition and have many opportunities to perform and attend concerts. Program time runs ten hours per week, not including performances, for 40 weeks in a year. Need:

There is a great need for this program in the city of Chicago. A student enrolled in CMOP not only achieves artistic excellence, but also develops skills proven to increase academic performance. Students are exposed to opportunities and experiences that greatly increase the probability of social, academic, and professional success. The challenges of Chicago’s urban communities, such as poverty and crime, play less of a role in determining the student’s outcome as the student instead becomes an instigator of positive social change within his or her own community.
