About 1/4 of all financial losses from fraud reported to the n in 2021 — or roughly $770 million — stemmed from online scams originating on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and others.

Social media platforms are a "gold mine" for investment, romance and other scams, according to the FTC.
