From performing my poetry in elementary school to presenting on stages now, I am happy to share that I’m taking my next step with public speaking.

Joining the IL Chapter of the National Speakers Association is proving to be one of the best professional decisions I’ve made. I look forward to applying the strategies I learn in the 2026 Speakers Academy.

It still feels weird calling myself a public speaker despite presenting speeches for over ten years.

A Few Places I’ve Spoken
🎤 Westmont High School (2015 my junior year, I was the MC for the Senior Awards. It was the moment I realized that I had a skill for public speaking)
🎤 College of DuPage + the schools I competed at on the Speech & Debate team
🎤 Illinois State University + the schools I competed at on the ISU Forensics Team
🎤 Harper College and the 12 high schools I visit
🎤 I’ve been invited as panelist for several community events

According to research 77% of people fear public speaking, but it’s where I thrive the most. I love helping others and using a gift that God gave me.

Do I get nervous sometimes? Yep, but I believe that what I present can enhance the lives of those who listen.

I care deeply about helping others evolve their inner mind so they can experience a life they enjoy. So many people are sad and depressed, it’s heartbreaking every time I think about it.

I want more people to feel the happiness, joy, and peace that I frequently experience. It’s possible, it just takes some deep inner work.

The lack of emotional regulation education is why I started my blog, Veronica Speaks, where we get to have just one convo at a time about how to evolve your inner mind.

My blog is founded on the 8 Pillars of Holistic Health. I write about anything from Professional Development to Sexual Health and Relationships.

Veronica Speaks is my space to nerd out and help others while I’m at it. Many of these conversations I’ve presented in front of audiences.

I have no idea where my public speaking career will take me, but I am excited!! 😆😁

Be pretty, prosperous, peaceful, and principled. 💞 Pretty Privilege is real.

I used to think leading with beauty was wrong.

I thought God would consider me living in vanity and self-idolatry.

That changed when I read the Book of Esther and eventually realized that our beauty is a tool. Just like any tool, it can be used for good purposes and wrong ones.

Our appearance is often the first element people use to make judgements about the kind of person we are.

Relying on just being pretty without being principled is problematic.

Our looks is just the starting point - it’s not everything. There has to be a healthy balance.

“Calm down,” two words that you probably hate to hear when you’re upset.

Unfortunately, that command is one that’ll help you make the best decisions for your life.

You hardly make wise decisions when your emotions are all over the place. It is better to make decisions from a sound mind.

One of the best ways to calm down and enter the present moment is intentional breathing.

Start practicing deep, intentional breathing and your life becomes more manageable and enjoyable.

You can’t escape it…you can only try to escape. Every time you come down from that “high” of escaping, you’ll return to the same problems if not worsened.

Learn how to sit in it. Whatever “it” is to you, you must learn how to presently feel through the pain.

I should’ve put “silly” into that mix as well. Far from perfect, but I love my personality mix 🥰

Lean on the power of inspiration.

Being inspired helps you persevere through challenges. You feel capable of overcoming any obstacles in your way.

You don’t have to attend a motivational speaker event to be inspired. You can look around and choose to be inspired by the little things.

It’s your choice.

3.5 years sober and this is the hardest part for me. It has nothing to do with not using the substance, but everything to do with the people I sometimes find myself surrounded by.

It’s a tough reality to embrace.

Practice self-respect to remove yourself from harmful relationships.

The power is in your decisions. When you respect yourself, you make decisions that are aligned with who you are at your core.

Tolerating toxic and unhealthy relationships will leave you feeling discarded, disrespected, and neglected.

By practicing self-respect, you teach others how to treat you. It’s a model of living by example.

Believe or not, you have a choice in the kind of day you experience.

You can’t avoid emotional triggers, but you can choose how you respond to them.

Setting intentions and aligning them throughout your day is a mindfulness practice.

The power of setting intentions move you from overreacting (aka crashing out) to calmness and the ability to choose behaviors that lead to good outcomes.

Today, I choose the intention to be calm throughout my day no matter what happens. It’s not an easy choice, but it is an active one that leads to more positive outcomes for me.

I felt pi**ed off a couple times this morning, but I didn’t cuss anyone out, punch a wall, or experience road rage.

I recognized that I was feeling frustrated, validated my emotions, and chose to redirect my energy.

As a sober and abstinent woman, I have no escape from my mental and emotional experience.

I choose to be dedicated to being well and present. Setting daily intentions help me live by my quality standards and be 1% better everyday.
