Since its launch in 2016, the GDC has used GENCODE v22 as a gene model for bioinformatic analyses. As GENCODE gene sets are continuously updated to improve the coverage and accuracy, in March 2022 the GDC upgraded the gene model reference used in data production, replacing over 600,000 files in the GDC data portal with files generated using GENCODE v36 – its most complex release to date. This week, our center celebrated the release of this GENCODE upgrade.
