The Alumni Board is spotlighting an alum twice a month.

Donzell Purnell (CJA ‘09) is our first feature in the new Alumni Board spotlight series.

You can still catch Donzell tossing a football or hooping, just like he did as a student at CJA. He’s also picked up riding dirtbikes and four-wheelers for fun.

These hobbies are one-way Donzell stays true to himself, which he says is his biggest accomplishment since graduating from CJA.

“CJA has impacted my life in two ways,” Donzell says. “First by being the closest thing to a father figure that they can be for me. Second, just being there for me when I needed help the most.”

Donzell is on a path to success. To him, that means being happy, peaceful, and stable. He’s starting a career in construction and hopes to establish a family in the future. Throughout his journey, he’ll always remember his upbringing on the West Side of Chicago, including his CJA family.

The Board was able to cut the hair of atleast 15 students nd staff today!!!(dbl from the 1st event 2 yrs ago) Just wanna say thank you to all the members who put in the time and effort to get this event successfully completed. we couldn't have pulled this off without the support of the alums, the barbers, and Cja community as a whole. The mission was always to impact alums students families and communities and today was perfectly executed. We will post the information of the barbers shortly in case other families would like to use their services going forward. Thank you everyone, stay safe and enjoy the weekend.🙏👑♥️

Alumni Board Mission Statement

The mission of the Alumni Board is to help the school better serve its students, alumni and the communities they come from. As alumni with the characteristics of the Grad-at-Grad values, we are uniquely positioned to advise CJA leadership. Our core initiatives are alumni mentorship, community engagement and wealth building. Our strong presence in the CJA community as mentors will better facilitate the needs of students. We will extend CJA’s benefits and resources to the greater West Side through active community engagement. Our wealth building initiative will better position students, families and alumni for financial independence and success.
