Connects IL students with agri-food professionals to bridge the gap between education & AFNR industry

01/21/2026

🥛 Did you know there are hundreds of careers in the dairy industry today — far beyond just farming?

Today, AGNITOR stopped by Gary Comer High School to introduce students to the wide range of career opportunities connected to the dairy industry — from food science and nutrition to marketing, engineering, business, and more.

To make it even sweeter, we wrapped up the conversation with a hands-on moment by making a warm pot of hot chocolate ☕️ because learning about food systems is always better when you can taste it.

Just another day of exposing students to the amazing possibilities in the AFNR industry 🌱
The future looks green!

For youth looking towards a career in agriculture, specifically within the agronomy sector, the Illinois Extension Youth Crop Scouting Competition is a perfect stop along the way.

Not only can competition experience be added to a resume, but it is a unique opportunity for high school students interested in ag to work as a team and network with today’s university experts to explore today’s crop-related issues.

The 2025 one-day competition is open to 10 high school teams and happening on Aug. 4 in Champaign. Cash prizes awarded to the top four teams include $500, $300, $200, and $100.

The top two teams will also advance to represent Illinois at the regional competition hosted this year in Iowa.
