The contest ends with a shark-tank style event where finalists pitch their businesses to a city-wide audience and a panel of judges for the chance to win a portion of cash prizes that total over $36,000! Our goal is to shine a spotlight on these incredible business owners and inspire others to pursue their dreams and build up their communities through entrepreneurship.

WASHINGTON PARK — The 51st Street Business Association is getting a grant from the city to assist its efforts in revitalizing the commercial corridor. The nonprofit is one of 27 grantees set to receive part of a $1 million grant from the Chicago Neighborhood Access Fund, a program under the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The fund aims to support organizations and artists creating programming on the South and West sides. Other grantees include the Greater Chatham Initiative, Englewood Arts Collective and Bridgeport’s Public Media Institute. Executive Director Sandra Bivens, who’s headed the association since 2009, said she plans to use the $40,000 award towards ongoing events like the Brown Derby Jazz Series, a program the association launched in 2021

THE LOOP — Google unveiled plans Wednesday for its new offices at the Thompson Center, including a new glass facade that changes the look of the often-disparaged Loop centerpiece.
The tech giant worked with architecture firm JAHN, which designed the Thompson Center, on the redesign. Google plans to maintain the center’s iconic 17-story atrium but will replace the facade with a new glass exterior.
Karen Sauder, Google’s Chicago site lead, said the center will be more energy efficient with new windows and heating and cooling systems. The company also aims to have the building run entirely on electric energy, she said in a statement.
Critics have longed complained about the look of the exterior of the postmodern building. And the soaring interior has been plagued with heating and air conditioning issues for decades. But the threat of demolition rallied supporters for years to preserve a building that’s drawn strong opinions ever since famed architect Helmut Jahn unveiled it in 1985.
Here's A Look At The Thompson Center's New Design
Google plans to start construction on the center in early 2024.
