"There are times when the tailwinds of triumph and fulfillment favor us, and other times when strong headwinds of disappointment and setbacks beat against us relentlessly. We must not permit adverse winds to overwhelm us as we journey across life’s mighty Atlantic; we must be sustained by our engines of courage in spite of the winds."
Today, and every day, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC) offers stipends for summer work in Chicago-area archives. Interns will be mentored by BMRC staff and the on-site staff where they are assigned for the 8-week program. Interns receive $3500 for the 8-week program, working 200 hours on site, and an additional 16 hours of educational and professional development with BMRC staff. No prior archival experience is required, and it’s a good way to develop an appreciation for cultural heritage work, regardless of future career plans. The program is open to students of color, and students from BMRC member institutions (like DePaul) are given priority consideration!
