Why is it so hard to feel feelings we don’t want to feel?

It can be difficult to feel emotions you don’t want to feel because our brains naturally try to protect us from overwhelming pain, often leading to avoidance mechanisms like numbing or distraction, especially if past experiences have taught us that certain emotions are too painful to confront; this can be further fueled by societal expectations, personal judgments about our feelings, and a lack of coping skills to manage difficult emotions effectively.

Overall, never forget that you are not alone. Healing in community is so powerful.

Do you find the gym space intimidating but you want to move your body but don’t know how?

I know exactly how you feel! Try these 5 easy beginner exercises to move your body and start feeling great!

1️⃣ March in place. Put on some of your favorite music and start to gently move your body around.

2️⃣ Knee Lifts - we sit all day and our hip flexors get so tight. This is a great way to promote blood flow and mobility.

3️⃣ Butt Kicks - wake up those hamstrings with some butt kicks. Kick your heels back and have fun with it.

4️⃣ Sliding Snow Angels - now it’s time to start moving your upper body as well. This is a great way to promote blood flow to your arms, shoulders and back.

5️⃣ Heel Taps - Now let’s wake up those biceps and triceps. Kick those heels nice and slow and have fun with it.

It is extremely hard for men of color to speak up about Mental Health. It’s extremely hard as a man to be vulnerable and show emotion - when all that we have been taught is to be a “man”, “suck-it up” and repress all emotion. It is extremely hard to ask for such desperately needed help when shame is all that we are taught. As men of color, we are shamed to be brave and strong, do it perfectly and show no emotion.

I am so grateful for the amazing work that is doing with his amazing company . We all need a safe space to breakdown, let go and be human. Thank you for teaching us that vulnerability is not weakness. Thank you for providing a safe space for men of color. I will be there for this amazing therapy session if anyone wants to join.
