💛If you’re struggling to keep your milk supply up, try power pumping. 💛
💛Some times women really do not make enough milk and need to make more. By adding a pumping session into your day, or nursing more the body will create more of a supply, because there is a high demand.
💛By emptying the breast over and over, you signal your body to make more milk more quickly.
💛A great time to power pump is while baby is asleep!
** Pro tip if you are able to sit down and watch tv, pump on the commercials and then rest during the show.

☘️Engorgement is when the blood vessels in your breasts are swollen and your milk ducts are overfilled with milk, causing discomfort and even pain. It can happen if your baby doesn’t nurse often or efficiently.☘️
☘️The best prevention strategy is to feed your baby whenever she’s hungry, and to make sure she nurses from both of your breasts. The idea is to drain your breasts regularly in order to keep them from becoming painfully hard and swollen. You don’t want to have your breasts become so engorged that your baby can’t latch on properly.
☘️If these tips don’t work, contact your lactation consultant or your healthcare provider for advice. You don’t have to suffer with breast discomfort or pain, there is help available!

💭Thinks to keep in mind while breastfeeding💭
💛Twelve feedings in 24 hours is not uncommon. Think about all the times you put food, water, snacks, and drinks up to your mouth. You are all that for baby. Feeding “on cue” early on helps bring your full milk supply and maintain it. Another reason could be that the baby is not latched on deep and is not removing all the milk from the breast.
💛Their fussiness may not be due to hunger. Immature digestion can cause some discomfort too many new babies.
💛Breastfeeding may not come easy, it does take practice. It does get easier and enjoyable once you guys get the hang of it and each other.
💛Feeding any amount of formula will decrease your milk supply, if you do not do it in the correct manner. To keep up your milk supply you still need to pump during your baby’s feeding. Draining the breasts completely will maintain your milk supply even if you choose to supplement with formula.
💛Formula does not contain anything beneficial beyond what your breast milk provides. Formula just gives a baby a high caloric intake. If you do decide to give a bottle of formula, expressed milk, donor human milk make sure to pace the feeding slowly, so that you can read the signs of when he/she is full.
💛Discomfort during breastfeeding should be minimal. Painful breastfeeding is not normal. Many times painful breastfeeding is relieved by improving the baby’s latch. If your ni***es are very sore, cracked, or bleeding please contact a lactation consultant for feeding assessment.

🤱🏽 Infants approximately fed 8-12 times every 24 hours.
💙If that seems like a lot, keep in mind, how many times we drink and eat; snacks and meals. It would total around 8-12 times/day.
Things we know:
💙Frequent feedings reduce the time it takes for a mother's milk to come in. In one study, moms who breastfed newborns every two hours began lactating eat least 24 hours earlier than did moms who breastfed every four hours (Salariya et al 1978).
💙Frequent breastfeeds increase a mother's prolactin levels, and high prolactin levels are needed to establish an adequate milk supply. In a U.S. study, breastfeeding frequency of about 10 times a day (range: 7-13 times a day) was associated with sufficient milk (de Carvalo et al 1982).
💙Colostrum, the milk produced during the first few days postpartum, is lower in fat and calories than mature milk. It is also produced in smaller amounts. A higher-frequency newborn feeding schedule helps babies compensate for the lower caloric density of their milk.
💙Newborns are more likely to thrive when they are fed approximately 8-12 times every 24 hours. Cue based feeding often in the first weeks of life tend to show greater weight gain at 15 days (De Carvalho et al 1983) and six weeks (Casiday et al 2004) postpartum.

Hi again! It’s me, Annelisse your lactation counselor! With so many new faces I think it’s great to show my face and reintroduce myself!
Back in January I made a post about having attainable goals and choosing to set them in small increments. So here I am following up! One of my goals was to work out at least 3 times a week and make working out a true part of my routine. I am happy to report 2 months and 5 days into the new year and I am still committed and going strong! With the help of .chicago she has held me accountable and kept me motivated each week! This week I had a sprained wrist and she followed up with some stretches that I can do to help! I am 3 pounds down and feeling so good!
All this lead me to thinking how important it is to have people supporting us. Choosing your circle is so important, especially when you are pregnant, and well on after. Surround yourself with those who push you to be better and then support you when your down. Motherhood brings on so many changes, why not cultivate relationships with people who can listen and be there for you!
I am so happy I met Erica with .chicago because she has helped my physical health and my mental! And I know she can do the same for you! If your pregnant, have kids, or just in need of a workout routine, check her out! We all know the benefits of working out but selecting people who care really makes a difference! Try and apply this to all aspects of your life. Especially with your healthcare providers, it is so important to be on the same page!
Good luck with your goals! Please share your progress in the comments down below! And don’t forget to check out .chicago you will not regret it!

Creating a safe work space for breastfeeding moms has many benefits for employers!
Friendly environments at work will consist of reasonable break times, support from coworkers, an indicated, private place to pump, and plenty of fridge space to store pumped milk.
Companies that have a good balance of benefits for breastfeeding mothers will see lower healthcare costs due to absenteeism and employee turn over. They will also see higher retention rates, employee morale, and productivity!
The image above and all information list can be found at reallyreally.org, it is a site all about breastfeeding. Know the facts.

💛Why breastfeeding your baby can help in case of emergencies💛
In the event of a natural disaster, be prepared for challenges, which may include power outages, unhealthy living spaces, and unsafe water. Breastfeeding remains the best infant feeding option in a natural disaster situation.
Breast milk helps protect babies from diseases such as diarrhea and respiratory infections and provides the calories and nutrients babies need. This protection is especially important during natural disasters when contaminated water and unsanitary environments can increase the risk of disease.
Disadvantages of Formula Use During Disasters or Emergencies
-It may not be available.
-It may become contaminated if prepared with unclean water or stored in non-sterilized containers, or if refrigeration is not available for storage.
-Errors in formula preparation may occur.

When is supplementation necessary?
If you baby experiences one of the following, talk to your baby's doctor if you have any concerns about your baby's weight gain, growth, or eating habits.
* More than normal weight loss in a newborn. Babies lose up to 10 percent of their birth weight during the first 5 days of life. By 2 weeks, they should be back up to their birth weight.
* Fewer than six wet diapers in a 24-hour period once your baby is 5 days old.
* Fussiness or lethargy most of the time.
* Very short or very long nursing sessions. If your baby often nurses less than 10 minutes or more than about 50 minutes at a time, it may mean she isn't getting enough milk.

🌼Protecting and Caring for your Breasts while BF🌼
The skin of your breasts is very delicate. With breastfeeding your skin can become dry, chapped, irritated, and even cracked over time. This can make breastfeeding a painful experience. By taking a few precautions (like the ones listed above) you can aviod chapped or cracked skin.
With all the changes occurring it’s very important that moms take care of themselves too! Especially your health, you will not be able to care for those around you if you are not meeting your own needs.

Feeding plans!
Breastfeeding is the practice of feeding an infant milk through the mother's breast.
Donor Milk is alternative sources of human breast milk to feed a baby. The milk can come from a donor milk bank and can be obtained from the hospital too, and is given through the bottle.
Exclusively pumping is where the mom pumps as much as the baby would feed and then stores and gives their milk through a bottle.
Formula- is a manufactured food designed and marketed for feeding to babies and infants under 12 months of age, usually prepared for bottle-feeding or cup-feeding from powder or liquid.
There is so much information and a lot of options, my class helps you navigate through it all. Virtual classes create a safe space to learn, ask questions, and prepare for all the changes. I want to help get you off to a good start and the more you know the better it will be for your family and the baby!
