Eight young people heading up to check out the HUMANS initiative of Stephanie R. and her social justice community in Madison Wisconsin!

Thank you to Hazel and the friends who came by with breakfast, also one of the dads! and Frank's friend, who drove them up to where they are starting their journey.

One of the youth asked 'so where are we sleeping tonight?' and I said 'I think that's one of the things you friends have to figure out' he said 'Cool!!! - and the weather is good :)

Invitation to support Classroom Alive Madison / Chicago

When we walk, we have the opportunity to do things a bit differently, to walk our own ways, to discover the complexities of each other and who we are. Instead of flattening our financial situation by choosing a set amount of money that we each need to ‘pay’ to join the walk, we are leaning into a more considered, intentional contribution model, inviting each other to consider our own economic situation and how it could relate to the walk.

One of our intentions in this walk is to serve the larger picture of what it means to be human, and to support people in having their needs met so they have the space be themselves. As you consider what to contribute, consider how you might serve this intention too.

If you have some more ability to contribute financially, you might be able to be a really important part of this Classroom Alive journey being able to happen in the way it is intended, for others to be supported in having their needs met, and in this opportunity to redistribute some funds towards this really burgeoning project right now. This wondrous walk may be needing your support, financial and otherwise, to be all it is trying to be in this moment.

If you have a moderate ability to contribute financially, you might be able to be really key to supporting yourself and others in the group to have their needs met, and in this opportunity to be part of stabilizing the project. The walk will grow and be nourished by your contribution, and will support journeyers in their day-to-day needs on the walk.

If you have little or no ability to contribute financially, we are so grateful you are here inviting the community to support you strive for your becoming! You are contributing so much to this journey, helping the project stay grounded in working class roots and intentions, and to make sure you personally have the money you need in the longer-term to live your life. You being able to be safe, well and taken care of is more important than being able to give heaps of money to the project.

When you share your money with us, we want to be responsible and really consider what it means for us as a collective to now steward this money together with healthy frameworks. How might we respect your generosity, how might your contribution best serve the collective needs and aspirations, and serve the growing of grassroots community here in Chicago?

We invite you to consider how to be generous towards Classroom Alive Chicago’s becoming, financially or otherwise. Can you give us advice or your thoughts? Help spread the word, invite friends, connect us with local initiatives, help fundraise? If you won’t be with us in person, can you let us know how our journey in Chicago can support, inspire and enliven your work? We are looking forward to sharing the stories with you!

We are figuring out a cost breakdown but any contributions, from $5 to $50000000000 would all be so appreciated.

We are welcoming contributions in any range, knowing that all are welcome to join or support from afar, regardless of financial means!

We would be happy to talk about this if it could help you or if you need clarification.

Thank you for reading our invitation, considering your personal situation, and understanding a bit of our anticipated costs. We will spend the money on food and some camping supplies to sustain us for the walk. Whatever extra donation money we have will be donated to charity.

Dear Classroom Alive community,

Would you be open to joining a listening/support/advice circle this Sunday for an upcoming Classroom Alive Chicago? It would be tomorrow, on Sunday, July 26 at 11am PST (UTC-7) / 8pm BST / 2pm EST.

A group has formed out of the Elderberries community in LA to create an upcoming Classroom Alive in Chicago. We’re feeling generative and in movement already, and feeling the wish to call in some listening voices, getting some feedback and thoughts on our journey so far and what we might do to help it be successful. We are open to all, whether you’ve been on a journey or not.

Please send us an email (linked in our about page) to let us know if this works for you! Or just join the day of, at the below Zoom link.

Otherwise, you can contact Frank at [email protected] with any words or thoughts or advice and/or we can find another time to connect with you.

Thank you and love,

Ultra, Stefan, Joseph, Alex, Frank, Dottie, Robbie and our feet and other friends.

Health and Safety Policy:

By joining and organizing the journey, we are all agreeing to the following policies and protocols, last revised July 10, 2020.

Covid-19 related Policies and Protocols:

Each learner will always have a mask on them.

The learners will follow the recommended mask guidelines, especially including wearing masks anytime they are in an enclosed space / building.

The group will have extra masks for when masks get soiled and for others who join the journey along the way.

The group will always journey with hand sanitizer.

The organizing team will have very clear communication with all partners on the ground to understand their Health and Safety policies and follow them.

The organizing team will have clear arrangements with all hosts and places where they sleep, and is open to sleeping outside / in backyards when that is the best or safest option.

The organizing team is monitoring the state of the pandemic and health guidelines in the Chicago area, taking them seriously, and adapting our policies and protocols based on the ongoing updates. Specific ways the journey unfolds may depend significantly on how the pandemic develops in the coming weeks.

People joining should be tested for COVID-19 before and after the journey.

Anyone who tests positive or is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 before or at the start of the journey will not join the journey in-person, but the organizing team will still try to include them through online learning support and check-ins.

Anyone who tests positive or is exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19 after the start of the journey will enter into quarantine. The organizing team is currently looking into safe quarantine arrangements for this type of situation, and is committed to taking care of sick members of the group who may need support during this time.
