Our annual PACCD, SSD, Parkway party is fast approaching! It's next Friday, Jan 27 at St. Louis Arc at 1177 North Warson Road, 63132 at 7 pm.
I need to know if you are attending, mainly so we buy the correct amount of food and drink!
For those of you who are new to PACCD(Parents Advisory Council for Children with Disabilities) this party is a way to get SSD staff and Parkway staff together to get to know each other better and hopefully work together easier. What these districts have in common is us! We work with both districts for the benefit of our children. This is a great opportunity for staff to see us as people rather than just that parent who is causing trouble! It is important for the staff to see us as a strong, active group of parents who are very interested and involved in their children's education.
This may not sound like barrels of fun, but it is a very interesting and enjoyable event. No pressure, just come and bring your spouse if you like, and get to know your fellow parents. Even if you have not been able to attend a PACCD meeting, please come and let us get to know you! We have many new members and so most people will be meeting each other for the first time. This will be a fun way to participate, network and get to know each other!
I hope to see you all there and please reply to this email to we can plan appropriately!
Thanks,
Vici Manning

Great work Barretts! See the info below about an inspiring project from Inclusion week in December.
Barretts Inclusion Quilt made to celebrate National Inclusive Schools Week Dec 5th-9th 2016. This quilt highlights every class mission at Barretts Elementary School. The PACCD at Barretts appreciates the help of Counselor Kelly Crupper and the Cultural Leaders with this project and of course the students and teachers who wrote the missions! A letter was also included in the newsletter the first full week in December and invited families to view the quilt displayed in the front Hallway at Barretts. The PACCD and Barretts have actively participated in National Inclusive Schools week (though sometimes shifting to a different week with:) for the past 8 years. I wanted to share our activity as SSD made a proclamation celebrating Inclusive Schools Week`. Thank you Diane Southard for sharing.
Hello all!
Just a reminder- our meeting Thursday night, Jan 12, is our chance to give SSD our opinions- Below is a more official explanation! Hope to see you at South Middle at 7 pm!
Details about the 3rd Party Research
SSD is requesting your participation in a parent focus group. All focus groups are professionally conducted by Opinion Research Specialists. Your personally identifiable will not be provided to the district and no advanced preparation is required.
SSD has always developed and followed multiyear, long-range plans. As the district looks toward a future of ever-changing student needs and increasing demands from our community and nation for well-educated graduates, the SSD Board of Education would like to redefine and refocus priorities.
On September 13, 2016, the Board of Education unanimously approved entering into a strategic planning process that contains an intense focus on listening to parents. This process includes multiple focus groups to be held around the county and will provide the Board of Education with the information needed to achieve desired outcomes that have been defined by members of the community, partners and the school district.
In-depth input from parents is essential to the process. Your views and ideas for improvement will be valuable in representing the needs of students and families.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to participate in this important project.
