With the heaviest of hearts and the happiest of memories, we mourn the loss of our dear sister Kris Fleming. Kris passed away Sunday, August 9. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in April and fought the disease with all her strength.
Kris was initiated into Eta Theta Chapter at the University of Missouri-Rolla in January 1988. She joined the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter soon after graduation. Her service to ZTA included multiple alumnae officer roles, collegiate chapter advisory positions, and national leadership as a Chapter Financial Management Committee member, Fraternity Housing Corporation Director, and FHC Construction Committee member. She served as Vice President Construction on the Fraternity Housing Corporation board from 2020 until July 2026.
Through ZTA’s philanthropic partnership with Susan G. Komen, Kris was inspired to volunteer with Komen St. Louis and the Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure, including service as Race Co-Chair.
She received her Certificate of Merit in 2002 and her Honor Ring in 2014. At ZTA Convention in July 2026, the ZTA Fraternity Housing Corporation honored Kris with the Julia Marthaler Hill Award for Excellence in Housing Leadership.
Kris made an indelible impact on our chapter, ZTA, and her sisters and friends. We will miss her deeply.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, from 5 to 8 pm at Ortmann Stipanovich Funeral Home in Creve Coeur. The funeral service will take place Friday, August 14, at 10 am at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chesterfield.
The St. Louis Alumnae Chapter will plan a gathering soon to celebrate Kris.
