Taking flight and sparking futures! ✈️⚡️
The Forgotten Heroes Foundation was honored to host the incredible students from the Jack & Jill Club of America (Prince William County Chapter) this past weekend for an unforgettable day of STEM and aviation.
It wasn't just about looking at planes—it was about understanding the science that makes them fly! Our day included:
💡Hands-on Engineering: Students rolled up their sleeves to build working circuits, mastering the basics of electrical flow.
💡Discovery Flights: Participants took their STEM lesson to the skies, flying one-on-one with our team of professional pilots.
💡Expert Mentorship: We were privileged to have professors from Hampton University’s
Departments of Aviation and Engineering on-site to provide guidance and inspire the next generation of aerospace leaders.
Seeing the "lightbulb moment" happen on the ground and then watching that confidence soar at 3,000 feet is why we do what we do. A huge thank you to our volunteers, the Hampton University faculty, and the brilliant students who reminded us that the sky is truly the limit!

Blue skies, big smiles, and a huge leap forward for the next generation of aviators! ✈️☁️
We had an absolutely incredible weekend hosting students from Lynnhaven Middle School and Norview Middle School for a day of hands-on exploration and inspiration.
The highlight of the event? Our Discovery Flights! Every student and volunteer had the opportunity to take to the skies for a one-on-one flying experience alongside our professional pilots, who generously volunteered their time and expertise to make these dreams a reality.
🌟 A Special Thank You
This event wouldn't have been possible without the amazing energy and mentorship provided by our volunteers from Old Dominion University. A massive shoutout to:
• ODU’s Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
• ODU’s Engineering Ambassadors
Thank you for showing these students that the sky isn't the limit—it’s just the beginning! Your dedication to STEM education and community leadership is truly inspiring.
Helping young heroes find their wings is what we do best.

✈️ We’ve been logging some serious miles lately! Our mission to honor the past and inspire the future has taken us from the hangar to the high-altitude, and we couldn’t be more excited to share what we’ve been up to.
Here are three highlights from our recent adventures:
⭐️ STEM Night at Deep Creek Middle School: We were honored to participate in Deep Creek’s first-ever STEM Night! From explaining the physics of flight to showing off some of our gear, we loved seeing the spark of curiosity in the next generation of engineers and pilots.
⭐️ Hosting Jack and Jill of America:
The hangar was buzzing with energy when we hosted a fantastic group of students from Jack and Jill. It was an incredible day of hands-on learning, history, and a little bit of "cockpit dreaming." There’s nothing like seeing a student’s face light up when they realize the sky is not the limit!
⭐️ Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day:
We took to the skies and flew up to Delaware State University for a powerful event hosted by Black Women in Aviation. Celebrating the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen and meeting future aviation mechanics, pilots, and engineers was an experience we won’t soon forget.
Why do we do it? Because every flight and every event is a chance to prove that history lives through action. Thank you for supporting the Forgotten Heroes Foundation as we keep these stories alive and soaring!

Today, we pause to honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Gladys West, a STEM pioneer and mathematician who passed away on January 17, 2026, at the age of 95.
While many of us use GPS daily to find a destination or track a flight, few know the name of the woman who made it possible. Working at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, Dr. West spent decades developing the complex mathematical models of the Earth’s shape that became the foundation of Global Positioning System technology.
Dr. West’s journey is a testament to the power of education and resilience. She was the second African American woman ever hired at the Naval Proving Ground in 1956, and after a 42-year career with the Navy, she continued her pursuit of knowledge, earning her PhD at the age of 70.
At the Forgotten Heroes Foundation, our mission is to inspire the next generation of innovators by connecting them with the legacies of pioneers like Dr. West, whose contributions to STEM forever changed navigation.
