Happy Certified Nurses’ Day!

For the past 11 years, I have held at least one of three nursing specialty certifications... mostly two at a time!

Today, I proudly hold two!

Certification demonstrates our commitment to the profession and our expertise in a specific area.

Today, we celebrate that commitment and the value that you bring! Keep serving, caring, and advocating!

I love being a nurse!

It is one of the most noble, yet versatile and rewarding careers.

What are tour thoughts about the projected nursing shortage and the increased demand for nurses and the increased applications to nursing schools lately?

Happy Self-Care Sunday!

As women, we are notorious for not caring for ourselves in the ways that we care for others.

As nurses and caregivers, we tend to neglect our self-care in an effort to give to everyone else.

As good leaders, our teams are our priority, and we often fail to extend the same compassion to ourselves, as we do to our beloved team members.

I believe in the role of woman, nurse, caregiver, mother and competent leader. But, I have discovered through trial and error that self-care is the best care. We can never function well long-term in these roles well... very well... if we do not care for self... Our “best” will be short lived if we don’t take care of ourselves.

I have also learned that it’s easy to “let ourselves go” as in our needs go... by the wayside... even unintentionally... if we are not careful... and intentional.

What type of intentional self-care regimen have you put in place to ensure you maintain yourself in each role for the long-term?

Invest into you just as much, if not more as you do into others.

How recently have you reviewed your resume? Have you updated it?

Over the years, I have found that I forget to add accomplishments to my resume.

Too often, we are modest with showcasing our accomplishments. Well... this is one time that we need to showcase every bit that we have done, that we have been honored for... and every accomplishment that we can claim. I do have a disclaimer... there are a few times when we should hold back just a little bit, depending on the role, but in most cases, we want to put our best persona forward. I recommend reviewing your resume monthly... And if not... at least quarterly. Don’t lose sight of your genius and rockstar status. 😃

Let’s connect and review your resume! Let’s leverage all of your experience and accomplishments.

I assumed my first formal, full-time leadership role at the age of 24.

Ever since I was 21 years old, I have worked and gone to school...

So, when people ask me how I have accelerated my nursing and leadership career, one of my responses is, “Education plus experience.”

Usually, pursuing education without experience results in an deficit where one is qualified in regards to education, but not experience... This often means that the positions offered is more entry-level and pays less.

When gaining experience without the education, usually we reach a plateau where we have adequate experience, but we can’t advance because of a lack of education.

So, always advise clients to pursue both because it helps us compress time and be best positioned for what’s next!

What’s been your journey? Have you pursued education and experience together, or have you advanced in one area and then the other? Do you use a different strategy?

So often women... female nurses, and minority nurses are undervalued within their work environments. We are passed over for promotions. We are paid less. We see a glass ceiling in our career trajectory. If we spend too long in environments that devalue us and we continuously receive this messaging, then we might begin to assimilate with it. Please know that we are way more powerful, capable, smart, strong, and brave than some think. We advocate for nurses owning their careers in multiple ways.

What’s your next step? What’s your next move? Let’s connect and explore how we can go from now to next together!

I’ve hired so much over the years... I’ve learned lots too... I have been flown out to interview. I have been interviewed by a panel of 12 disciples... I mean leaders... ☺️

What’s been even more valuable is that I have served on hiring committees and panels. These experiences helped me learn how OTHERS see candidates... how they rank, qualify, and disqualify people. Getting “into people’s heads” can be valuable.

Now, I take my collective experiences to help my clients nail their interviews. We work together in a safe space so that you get the feedback you need, and are set up for success. The time to get started is BEFORE you have that interview scheduled for that dream job... As a matter of a fact, I can help you get that interview. Let’s connect.

I’ve been a hiring manager for many years. Then, I became a corporate executive with a publicly traded company.

There are “levels” to all of us... and “levels” to our goals. I didn’t grow up with people showing me how to invest in myself professionally and how I could compress my time to goal by leveraging the experiences of others who have walked the way and can show the way. When I learned and leveraged this, the game changed for me. Now... I am the change I want to see. Often, with a few adjustments, we can get to or exceed our goals on a shorter timeline.
