We live in a fast, loud, + busy world. Motherhood is hard + holy work.

As mamas, we’re trying to balance so much—holding the mental load of keeping a calendar, a home, the physical, emotional, + spiritual needs of our families.

So let’s pause for a moment... Are you taking time to nurture your own heart too? 🤍

My name is Tricia. I'm an adoring wife, a homeschooling mama of two, and a faithful follower of Jesus.

I began Willow Oak Roots to help nurture YOUR heart as a mother while you nurture your family. 🌿

As I lean into spiritual practices + life-giving rhythms for our family, I’d like to offer encouragement + affirm you + yours.

Life is still messy over here, but my faith is growing, deepening, + taking new shape as I seek to shepherd my children’s hearts.

It’s my life passion to continue to build up + pass on a legacy of faith to my children, their children, + their children's children. And maybe, since you’re here, you + yours, too!

I'm creating simple resources to help you slowww down, deepen connection with your family, and enliven your family's faith!

Let's stay connected, Friend.

I spend more time on ✨the gram✨ but I'll do my best to pop in this wee space, too!

🌿 Follow .oak.roots for reminders to breathe, bits of encouragement, and resources made to nurture your soul as you nurture your family.

Are your mind and your body on the go all the time?

Maybe you’re running from one sporting event to another…
Maybe you’re juggling deadlines and dirty diapers…
Maybe you’re worrying about the future of your finances…
Maybe you’re struggling to get your mind to rest when you lay in bed at night...

Sweet friend, we know life can demand so much from you and you feel like you have to do more or be more to keep up, but Jesus calls us to a life of rest and peace found only in the sweetness of His presence.

Psalm 16:8-11 says, “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety, for you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

In the presence of Jesus, we find joy and refreshment. Whatever is on your mind or on your schedule that is leaving you tired and empty, slow down and lay it at His feet and let His presence wash over every part of your weary and worried heart.

Leave a ❤️ if you’re choosing to sit with Him today!

The most effective discipleship, I learned, flows from genuine and deep connection, and such connection often begins in an atmosphere of fun, friendship, and both noticing and meeting needs.

As a single woman, I had many opportunities to talk to students about God’s love in the context of food, fun, and identifying with their student lifestyles. As a result, I saw many embrace a lifelong commitment to Christ. For lonely college students, having a space to laugh, meet people, and feel accepted was a profound answer to the deep longings of their hearts. Like Jesus, we were attending to their emotional, physical, and social needs as well as their spiritual needs and presenting the gospel as a personal appeal, not an agenda.

I carried this lesson with me when I started a family of my own. It was always my goal that our home be the place our children and their friends loved to be. Even now, in their adult years, their heartstrings are tied to home because it is a place where they know they will be cared for and known. A web of connection and love knits us together from the many fun times we have had as well as from our shared and growing faith.

Oh, Friend! The analogies of God's good work in our lives aren't hard to come by...

And isn't this Pumpkin Parable a fun one?

I have a simple guide with Scripture to help you tie this together as your family carves pumpkins this year.

What a precious way to tell the gospel story, highlighting ways God delights in His best work of art -- (that's us!).

I don't know about you, but my crew will jump at any chance to dress up in costumes and eat candy! (even if it's just Christmas jammies and cowboy boots😂🎄)

Add in a big pot of chili and mummy dogs with cousins, and it's a party!

Whatever your existing traditions or lack thereof, I invite you to create a few simple and special moments with your family through the PUMPKIN PARABLE.

Have you heard of it?! 🎃

Y'all. Sharing the gospel with our children can be both creative and impactful.

One fun way is through carving a pumpkin, which serves as such a neat analogy for all the ways God honors our unique individuality, cleans up our sin, and lights our lives up with His love!

Ephesians 2:10 says we are His MASTERPIECE, and this is such a simple way to share that!

It may be a launch pad for meaningful conversations...or it may just be a simple seed planted to cultivate interest and delight in our part of God's story.

Speaking of seeds... Don't forget to roast them when you're done carving! 😋

First, take a deep breath, Mama.

That breath is a prayer, you know. It's just as if you are speaking the name of Jesus over your heart, your children, and your home. (It's true! Look it up!)

Remind yourself that God has chosen YOU to shepherd these precious hearts.

But if that's still not giving you the reset you need, here are 3 simple tips that may...

☀️Take your little ones on a short stroll to soak up fresh air and vitamin D.

You'll all be better for it.

🧹 Delegate one small task to your kiddos to foster responsibility.

Let it go if it's not done perfectly. It's a habit that's forming. Anddd, let's be honest. In this moment it's, occupying their busy bodies so you can have a moment to yourself!

☕ Schedule a quick coffee break to refresh your spirit.

This is when I encourage my kiddos to grab a stack of books or send them to their rooms for 30 minutes to play quietly.

Do you think one of these can help? Which will you try this week?

Do you have another tip? Share in the comments!

Take a breath, Mama. 🫁

You know, the long inhale through the nose-from the diaphragm-out the mouth kinda breath?

Breathing is just like speaking the name of Jesus. (It's true - look it up!) And sometimes that's all it takes to reset on a stressful day.

Soo many mothers feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and ill-equipped to disciple their children, let alone nurture their own spiritual lives.

I know because... me too, sometimes.

But I am a hopeful idealist. So even though I fall far short of my own ideals AND what I understand to be laid out by Scripture, it doesn't stop me from trying.

ACK. Trying. Did you catch that? We often think we can become better Christ followers and better mothers by trying harder, don’t we? But all that trying just leaves us worn out and frustrated.

Instead, we can learn to practice ABIDING.

Ahhh. Much better.

Abiding is all about allowing God's presence to rest inside us...and for us to live, move, and breathe in Him.

(Go ahead and take another deep breath...)

He wants you to know and trust Him, Mama. He wants to walk through life with you and guide you in Truth.

And He's anointed YOU to plant those Truths in your children's hearts.🥰
