Black Youth Day On The Hill ✨

What a week! Hutchins Academy mentees had an opportunity to meet Representative .yusuf.hakeem and Secretary of State while touring the capital. We appreciate Rep. Hakeem’s staff for the coordination and warm welcome. Rep. Hakeem dropped so many gems on our youth about how to get engaged civically at the local level and opportunities for youth at the capital.

Intergenerational exchange is how we practice Sankofa. We move forward as we look back to give.

Last Night,

Hutchins Academy parents and seniors huddled in the office with Zennia and I to get a head start on the FAFSA. 6 families were done in under 1 hour and 34 minutes.

Students who complete the FAFSA are 84% more likely to enroll in college.

As of 2021, only 57% of high school students completed the FAFSA.

Our completion rate is 100% and no family is left behind. While everyone is comfy for the holidays, we are getting ahead.

Our senior has been offered a full ride scholarship to Berea College as a Woodson Scholar in the namesake of Carter G. Woodson, the father of “Black History Month.” We cannot express how excited we are for Jamaal to have a $190k opportunity on the table. Let him cook!
