A Contrast of 19th Century Lace Art featuring Needle Lacemakers of Italy, Bobbin Lacemakers of Belgium, and Polish Crochet Lace presented by Mary Salmon
Tuesday, June 2, at 7:00 pm Eastern
Mary will speak on the finer points of mid-19th century Italian needlelaces: Reticella, Filet, and Cantu, describing how it is created, and showing actual patterns used. Additionally, she will review the differences between the making of needlelace and bobbin lace, showcasing an authentic lacemaking pillow, bone and wood bobbins and linen thread. To conclude, she will present images and information on crochet lace, an artform currently growing in popularity. Questions will be answered at the end of the presentation.
Mary Salmon has over 20 years of experience in collecting lace and textiles from around the world. She was captured by the beauty of antique lace as a young child during her family's many trips to Ireland and Central Europe.
