A shift is upon us, and I am preparing my offerings for you ✨ The greater IDC educational program has been simmering on my trusty back burner (getting tastier) for years at this point, while I navigate personal life stuff like solo-parenting etc etc, iykyk. The release is nigh. Stay tuned.

This angel’s first-ever haircut when she was under 2 years old sticks out in my memory more than most, though the honor of cutting a baby’s first hairs always has its special place in my heart.
On her grandparents’ shady screened in porch in the woods, her little “owl feathers” as they were lovingly referred to were the most natural little mullet as they grew in according to Nature’s mullet-loving design.
Now, this owlet flies off to COLLEGE in a matter of months as she graduates from high school and pursues some cool ass dreams. Not to mention, ahem 🥲🥲 also graduating from COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL at the same time and becoming a hair stylist on the side. Ugh I am just so impressed and proud.

Woohoo, thanks for the sweet write-up 🤗
I know I’m one of the luckiest people on the planet, to be so fulfilled by what I do in a daily basis, and to get paid for it on top of that. In over 20 years, the thing I was so afraid of has somehow never happened: I have not fallen out of love with cutting people’s hair.
I know it’s because I’ve always done it on my own terms, without following a prescribed system or step by step formula. It is pure creativity, and an opportunity for me to get into a true flow state, collaborating with Nature in a way that has become, well, second nature by now, and I get to escape the confines of my linear mind in the process.
From lingering Brazilian keratin treatment + heavy haircut dictating her styling choices to her natural air dried texture and a fun, piecey cut for Spring ✨ Can you just FEEL the newfound lightness in her entire aura??
.art and I have DONE IT AGAIN folks 😄 I wish I had a vid or even a photo of them drawing the design onto the wall prior to my painting, but you’ll have to imagine it. I am loving my lil office studio salon more and more all the time 🥰

This mother and daughter pair, who have allowed me into their magical orbit 🥰✨
I am privileged to connect with multiple related generations in my practice, and to share intimate space with each, and all. Sometimes it’s a party (these two often have the third generation in tow, too) and sometimes it’s one on one, and the conversations are as illuminating as the hair growth patterns they share. It is fascinating to notice these genetic commonalities and to help them all to understand their connections to one another even more.

👋 it’s me! worked her genius again 📸 and I figured why not start the new year with an introductory post for those of you who may not know who I am:
I’m Lune and I have a little hair cutting studio in Charlottesville, VA where I practice and teach ‘Intuitive Dry Cutting’, an emergent and highly attuned approach to hair and beauty, based in principles of Radical Acceptance and co-creation with Nature.
That basically means that I do not use heat tools to make someone’s hair do anything it doesn’t want to do, and instead I’ve taught myself how to work with each person’s hair’s idiosyncrasies to maximize daily ease, movement, lightness, and a holistic sense of balance.
I’ve mapped out universal hair growth patterns that all hair is informed by as it grows, and within which each head has its own unique expression, and I teach this Universal Hair Map to professional hair stylists so that they, too, can ditch unsustainable methods of trying to control hair in favor of artistry that is collaborative with Nature.
I work exclusively with *actually* natural products and I have left all color or any other chemical services behind—I no longer even wash anyone’s hair as a part of the service! I spend 100% of my time with clients meticulously sculpting, and holding space for the totality of their being, hair and all.
I see folks every 3-4 months on average because the grow-out just keeps giving and giving, and I absolutely love what I do and feel thankful every day that I get to use my hands to be creative while working with Nature, even while indoors in an urban environment. I like to say that I work with people, not hair, because I’ve come to understand that the two are inseparable, and with that comes more complexity than our industry has thus far liked to admit or include.
This is why my services look less like teaching and more like coaching (I am a certified life coach) so that I can help stylists find the areas within each of them where resistance to this kind of approach comes up. It’s an individualized process of holding and empowering so that we can turn around and do the same.

I love seeing hair just do its thing, undisturbed and uninterrupted from its flow. If it’s cut by someone who understands how it wants to arrange itself based on how it grows, those cute tendencies are encouraged. That’s when people start saying “who cuts your hair?!” at the grocery store 😄 No one models natural hair better than children, simply because they haven’t developed the self consciousness to be aware of what their hair is doing and try to change it; they do not care even a little bit. That’s called freedom and it’s priceless.
