High schoolers are questioning capitalism. Here's how teachers are handling it. High school teachers say that teaching capitalism has become increasingly politicized, with students drawn to figures like Zohran Mamdani and AOC.

We hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! This last month, we enjoyed hosting high schoolers from across Rockingham County, Virginia for a discussion on Democracy and Capitalism and a tour of UVA. Special thanks to our DCTI alumni Bryce Weber for helping us coordinate it all!

Our week-long program for high school social studies teachers takes place from July 12-18, 2026. It’s free for educators to attend, and we cover the costs of travel, hotel, most meals, and additional expenses. Additionally, we provide educators a stipend for their time. All you have to do is apply, get in, and show up!

And DCTI Alum – please apply for a Teacher Fellowship! These resource development opportunities are PAID and primarily virtual. Come help us develop our new resource hub this summer!

We are thrilled to share that we’ve been awarded a grant from The Jefferson Trust to jumpstart DemCap Classroom, a new online hub for teachers and students. You can read more by clicking on their article below!

DemCap Classroom will feature resources on Democracy, Capitalism, and the intersection of the two. It includes introductory materials and videos, lesson plans, case studies, primary sources, and more – all accessible online for free.
