VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment

The Virginia Institute of Autism in Charlottesville and SVH Services/BRAAC in Roanoke were each founded by parents determined to create better opportunities for children with autism whose needs could not be met in traditional public school settings. From the beginning, both organizations shared a commitment to helping individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities reach their fullest potential through compassionate, evidence-based services.

Over time, that commitment grew beyond serving children to supporting individuals and families across every stage of life. In 2023, these two parent-founded organizations merged to form VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment (VIA), creating a stronger organization with broader reach, deeper expertise, and an enhanced capacity to provide specialized support throughout the lifespan.

Today, VIA serves families across central and western Virginia, guided by a mission to build brighter futures through compassionate, effective, evidence-based services for individuals with autism and their families. As an ethical, mission-driven, independently CARF-accredited nonprofit, VIA is dedicated to expanding access to high-quality care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence.

As we celebrate 30 years of impact, we remain firmly grounded in the values that inspired our co-founders in Charlottesville and Roanoke. We’re also looking toward the future, expanding our continuum of care to include residential services and other innovative supports.

Guided by excellence in care, training, evidence-based practice, and compassion, VIA is poised to make an even greater difference in the decades ahead.

As we continue to celebrate 30 years of service in 2026, we’re diving into the VIA Vault. In 2014, families shared their hopes for their loved ones’ futures. Over a decade later, these dreams of inclusion, community, and independence remain a constant vision for the people we serve.

VIA’s commitment to clinical integrity, data-driven programming, and evidence-based science has always been paired with the highest standards of compassionate care, and our impact on families, individuals, and communities is both driving and transformative.

We’re excited to continually expand our reach across our service areas – increasing capacity at Lexington VIA Day School, establishing our Pediatric ABA program in Roanoke, and renovating a new home for our James C. Hormel VIA Day School at the Webb Building.

Spotted at our Roanoke campus! Construction kicked off today for our new Pediatric ABA clinic at 312 Whitwell Drive. This new space will serve 12 children, ages 18 months to six years, with a diagnosis or autism (or who are currently on a waitlist for diagnosis).

VIA’s Pediatric ABA program is a nonprofit, mission-driven, and focused on long-term outcomes for children and families. Our individualized services are based on medical necessity and measurable progress, not a one-size-fits-all model. We’re excited to expand our evidence-based services into Roanoke to meet the growing need for quality care and clinical integrity.

New families are encouraged to enroll now to secure a spot for August!
