Kannapolis Issues Water System Boil Notice

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. –

Kannapolis Water Resources Department crews have determined contaminants that carry E Coli bacteria were found in the drinking water of the City. The City’s processes of cleaning and treating our drinking water should have eliminated these contaminants with no detrimental issues for the public.

However, per North Carolina regulations we are informing you that the contaminants were found and we are flushing and treating all city water to further ensure the contaminants are eliminated.

This is believed to be a temporary issue and tests will be done within 24 hours to ensure the water is free of contaminants.

In an abundance of caution, the City recommends all city water customers boil all water used for human consumption (including water used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water until further notice. We anticipate that the advisory will be lifted within 24 hours. We will distribute a notice when it is safe to stop boiling water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute will kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

E. coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Human pathogens in these wastes can cause short-term effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a greater health risk for infants, young children, the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

It's sad when we have to turn away a parent because all of our classes are currently full.

For our older students in Mrs. Cindy and Mrs. Sherry’s classes, this week ended quite seriously. Many were able to grasp why Jesus humbly washed His disciples’ feet, demonstrating true servant leadership. A handful were even able to pause during communion to retell passionately why Jesus chose to die. The photo of 2nd grader Jayce’s prayerfulness during his foot washing says it all, as do each of these pictures. On this ‘𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲’ of Holy Week, Mrs. Sherry, Ms. Peyton and Ms. Tabetha’s classes left Chapel singing and smiling earlier today. Maybe it was because they found joy, joy, joy, joy down in their hearts? Maybe it was because Pastor Wanda offered a kind ear when they shared some prayer requests? Maybe it was because Georgie told a joke about his height? Or maybe it was because the story of Zacchaeus reminded them that Jesus loves us and will forgive us, no matter who we are, no matter what we have done, if we ask Him into our heart.
