In an emergency, there’s no time to be almost prepared.

Pilots train again and again so that when something unexpected happens, the response becomes second nature. Knowing the procedures is one thing — being able to execute them under pressure is another.

Before the lake existed, this exact peninsula had already seen 4,000 years of history. Long before Lake Norman Airpark had a single runway, this ground was a seasonal hunting and camping site for the Catawba Indian Nation — chosen for its elevation and its spot along Native trading paths.

Archaeologists have found worked flint flakes, old china fragments, and a blackened-soil campsite here that point to human activity as far back as 2,000 BC. Four thousand years before the first Cessna ever landed, people were already picking this peninsula for the same reason pilots do today: it’s high ground with a clear view.
