We are a small family business, husband and wife team, that do ALL of the coaching for Mighty Kicks Piedmont NC.
We choose to do all of the coaching to maintain a level of quality and consistency that parents and our childcare/preschool partners can trust.
We love, care for, and treat all of our Mighty Kicks friends as if they were our own! We LOVE being able to watch our players grow and develop in these formative years and then SEE them in the community as they continue to grow.
We have been operating Mighty Kicks Piedmont NC in the area since 2015. Our first groups of players are in high school now and we LOVE to see them growing into teenagers and young adults and remember the positive impact that we were able to have when they were preschoolers.
We understand the massive opportunity and responsibility it is to work with this age group and we are blessed to be able to do it!
We are educators, first and foremost, with close to 50 years of experience between the two of us working with ages spanning from 2 year olds to high schoolers. We have made child development, through athletics, our life's work.
In our opinion soccer is the BEST introductory sport for 2-5 year olds. It develops fitness, balance, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, coordination, confidence, and character ALL while keeping little ones moving to avoid down time.
We keep the children moving, most of the time with their own soccer ball, to get lots of touches to develop the basic skills of ball control, dribbling, passing, and shooting. We use an age-appropriate curriculum that keeps them engaged while they are working on their skills.
At this age, for most kids, there is very little benefit to playing "real" soccer games. One ball, with a tiny blob of humans, bouncing off of, and kicking each other, is hardly beneficial to the development of the skills that lead to proper gameplay.
We keep the focus on FUN, while developing the basic skills needed to enjoy playing the game when your child reaches the age they can understand game play.
We do have some parents who choose to use our program in the childcare/preschool setting to develop skills while playing soccer games elsewhere. We are always humbled when parents recognize the skills from our program that have been developed and then utilized on the field when they do play soccer games.
SIDE NOTE - We have a Saturday morning program that is a continuation of our 3-5 year old chuldcare/preschool programs for K-2nd graders and 3rd-5th graders to start playing games if you would be interested.
At this age children are sponges, learning how to listen to a coach, follow multi-step directions, taking turns, sharing, being a friend, and developing a love for exercise and movement.
Character development is a HUGE part of our program. We consider ourselves as an extension of the classroom, modeling how the skills developed in the classroom, like how to listen to a teacher/coach, pay attention, follow classroom rules & procedures, and develop positive character traits carry into athletics and all facets of life.
We aim to foster a belief in our players that they should ALWAYS believe in themselves and to NEVER give up. The ONLY time that they truly fail at something is when they won't try or give up. We don't want to hear, "I can't", we want to hear, "I can, I will, I won't give up." It is a true joy to see a child's face when they accomplish something they thought they couldn't do. We hope to foster an attitude of grit and determination in each player to never give up, no matter what they are doing!
We all fail at times but failure is a GREAT teacher. As long as we keep on trying, learn from those failures, and NEVER give up....... we NEVER truly fail.
This is a growth mindset and it is a mindset that will help children in ALL areas of their life!
Thank you for allowing us to work with your little ones and welcome them into our Mighty Kicks Family!
