Cornell West: "Brilliant. Original." Lynne Truss: "Loved it!"
This is the work of the mother of one of the dear people I've had the privilege of teaching. Sarah Crutchfield Logan is well acquainted with contemplation and the necessity of one's mind being free of the forces of commoditization / when there's so much stuff, everything is JUST stuff. I can imagine her doing - things (notice, difference between "things" and "stuff" - "stuff" is more, well, cheap, incohate, "just stuff"-sounding) ... with this image.

From one of my most brilliant students.
THIS is a turkey disguising itself as a gym teacher.
She has promised me an essay on this topic next week. I am immensely looking forward to plumbing the depths of this deeply exciting new phenomenon.

During the past year or so, I've been teaching primarily web development and Dutch.
I haven't yet updated the Writeanoia page to reflect this [as I have been unbelievably busy doing various things to help my students, and help American education in general- LOTS of great things planned]. I've developed what might be the the most powerful way of helping people learn Dutch - together with the assistance of a brilliant Dutch teacher and author of an amazing Dutch book, Marjan de Vooght. And the teaching methodology is getting better and better as I add materials and discover more great Dutch culture that assists learning the Dutch language.
If you are interested in what I do, please consider "liking" Dutch Classes with Writeanoia. This helps my page get more visibility and helps me find good students (finding Dutch students is NOT EASY!).
Thank you!!
WHAT GREAT JOY!
I taught a nine-year old some of the REASONS for note-taking, and a tiny bit of the "how-to" of note taking, quite a few weeks ago. I'd been planning on bringing this up again together with outlining, as note-taking is utterly essential to learning in all literate societies. My students who take good notes are the ones who are flourishing in life and studies. My students who do NOT take notes are the ones coming to me with failing grades and failing relationships.
So today, Ms. Student says near the end of class: "There's something VERY IMPORTANT I want to tell you!"
She pulled out her latest drawings from a drawing class she is taking from an artist. How beautiful they were, how the technique was so good.
WHY? Because she had TAKEN NOTES. She wrote down what her teacher was telling her while she was being told. The notes helped her review and get the material she was taught into her long-term working memory. So she KEPT what she learned, and could ACTUALLY USE IT - in a deep way, WITH RESULTS.
Dear friends. 9 years old, she "got it." She's on a path now to become a great learner and a highly successful young lady - in many areas of life.
PLEASE consider helping your loved ones learn how to TAKE NOTES. Consider learning it yourself if your own note-taking isn't quite formidable yet. A healthy mind - a good mind - a powerful mind. God created us in a truly wonderful way, and the mind is one of the most wonderful parts about us. But most of us let the mind fester. It becomes weak, or even ugly.
Learning to take notes can TURN THAT ALL AROUND, in a quiet yet powerful way.
