It is bittersweet that I announce my retirement from teaching art and offering art camps. I have loved every minute of teaching - from the littlest of toddlers all the way through to my eldest student of 90.

I was recently hired on as a full time Development and Learning Specialist for Goodwill University. My masters degree in instructional design is being utilized more than I could have hoped! 

What is Goodwill University? Well, number 1, it is amazing! If you live in the Southern Piedmont area 90 cents of every dollar received from Goodwill store donations goes back in to the community by providing employability services, resources, and training at no cost to participants. The trainings offered are unbelievable - anyone 18 or older can register. From basic computers to advanced IT certified programs all the way through to construction trades, there is something for everyone. Did I say offered at no charge??

It’s been a busy month of March! Lots of out of the box creative thinking…clay…canvas…paint!

This week we’re returning to our oil pastel sets to draw up some classic bakery treats. It should be a “sweet” session!

This week we’ll make chalk pastels the “star of the show” by experimenting with some fun techniques for this very special medium. From the sky to the sea, it’s sure to be an hour full of creativity and color.

Tonight was a busy night - full of mixed media! Students had a blast as they created a printed background to enhance their colored pencil still life sketches. Printing, drawing and painting - now that’s a good time!

It’s almost clay day! We’ll be sculpting miniature gardens on Thursday. You can make one full of colorful cacti or for a fancy little fairy. All creations are sure to turn out spectacularly.

Coming up Thursday: We’ll be painting on canvas to create a monochromatic landscape. Artists will learn how to mix tints and shades to create perspective in a scene of their choosing.

This week we’ll learn how to blend oil pastels to make these colorful crayon creations appear to “pop” off the page!

Kids had a blast tonight being creative with collage and new watercolor techniques!

In between letting your hands warm up and your coats dry out on these awesome snow days...pull out those art supplies and get creative!

This week in class, students will continue to experiment with various watercolor techniques and infuse oil pastel resist to create a collaged space painting that’s out of this world!

Next Thursday, students will build on their line design skills from week 1 and incorporate in watercolor. We’ll look at some real geodes and create our own colorful versions.

Yeah! Today was the first week of our new session. Ms Diana got everyone’s creative juices flowing by encouraging the kids to use unique line styles to develop original patterns, which were then used as a background for their initials. It’s fun to see how everyone’s personalities peeked through in their designs!
