Throughout the month of August, our members completed JRPAT (Job Related Physical Ability Test) skills stations designed to reinforce the physical demands our Firefighters and EMTs could face on the fireground. Members worked through stations including stair steps, hose pulls, rescue drags, ladder raises, and SCBA air-management drills. These evolutions combine strength, endurance, and technique, all critical skills when operating in demanding emergency situations.

Teamwork Made the Dream Work!

Hemby Bridge Fire Department was proud to join Safe Kids Union County and several community partners at the Union County Human Services Community Baby Shower. Our Child Passenger Safety Technicians helped staff the car seat safety check station, ensuring families had the information they need to travel safely.

Remember, a properly installed car seat and a correctly secured child can make all the difference. And with summer temperatures still here, never leave a child unattended in a vehicle even for a minute.

A nice day outside means another opportunity to sharpen skills. Today some of our Driver Operators and Driver Operator Trainees spent time completing pump operation check-offs. Understanding the science behind moving water from the engine to the firefighters on the nozzle requires focus and practice. From establishing water supplies to calculating friction loss, pump discharge pressure, and elevation changes, there's much more to pumping than turning a few valves. Every decision made at the pump directly affects the crews operating the hose line.
