Teacher Appreciation Week gives Heart the opportunity to celebrate a very special group of tutors: our former and retired teacher volunteers, whose passion for education and years of classroom experience make them highly impactful tutors.

We’re happy to be shining the spotlight on three retired teachers from Blythe Elementary who have come full circle, returning to the school community they love as Heart volunteer tutors: Diatricia Willis, Stacy Hancock, and Stacy Sivick. Heart is grateful for their shared commitment to Blythe and Heart students!

Read their blogpost to hear what keeps them coming back!

Thank you, Empower Charleston, for visiting Heart students and tutors at Charleston Progressive Academy! We're grateful for your time and for the opportunity to show the positive impact Heart tutors have on students during every tutoring session.

Last week, we had the opportunity to meet with Executive Director Madison Anderson and Board Member Dr. Shakitha Barner at Charleston Progressive Academy, where we enjoyed seeing Heart Math Tutoring's volunteers and students in action. We learned more about their work providing individualized math intervention and mentorship for elementary students across Charleston County.

They shared how Heart’s one-on-one tutoring model is helping students build foundational math skills, confidence, and long-term academic success through the support of trained volunteer tutors. With plans to expand a virtual tutoring model, Heart is working to increase access for students in higher-need schools while engaging a broader network of community volunteers and corporate partners.

Thank you to the Heart team and volunteers for the meaningful impact you are making in the lives of Charleston students each and every week. 💙

Everyone's favorite tutoring tradition: the cards!

At the end of every school year, Heart Math Tutoring students and volunteers exchange handmade cards after working together each week. It's a small but meaningful way to say thank you and to remember each other by.

The drawings and sweet messages are a testament to the strong relationships that form between students and their tutors, and we know our tutors look forward to this moment every year!
